Great for fridges
These work great! Have alerted us to when we accidentally leave the fridge open. Can make it alert us for certain temperatures. Battery life is good and app tells you when you need to change them. Easy to use and set up in the app.

Precise and easy to use
I really like these thermometer/hygrometers. They are quite precise, displaying temperature and humidity to the tenth. The historical data is fantastic as well, as it's easy to look at trends over hours, days, weeks, months, or the entire year. Although I've only had them for a couple months, so no long-term experience yet. Initially, I tried one in the RV freezer, one in the RF refrigerator, and one in the RV living room. Yes, there is an "RV" trend there. We are camping out in the RV while the house is remodeled. Anyway, we wanted to monitor the temps in the freezer and fridge zone to ensure they were cooling to the right levels. And they were. And yes, the signal worked right through the refrigerator doors. The base unit was placed about 15 feet away under the dinette (cause that's where the outlet is). :) As the season progressed and it got much colder, we were more concerned with the temperatures around the freshwater tank and the underbelly area. And we were right to be concerned. The freshwater tank or the feed from the tank to the pump froze when we had the cold snap in early December (Oregon). How do I know it was the tank or tank line to the pump? Well, our RV has a feed hose with a cutoff valve right before the pump. So, I filled a bucket of water, put the feeder hose in the bucket, and ran the pump. Pressured right up and the sinks worked. So, frozen tank or feed line. Anyway, we skirted the RV with cellular foam board, put a small space heater underneath with a thermal switch, and placed the thermostats. One thermostat was hung under the frame in the now enclosed underside of the RV. One in the pump area with all the crazy water lines. And one just outside the RV hanging from an external panel. The lanyards came in handy for that. We were happy to see the underbelly temps come slowly back up above freezing. At this moment (22 Dec 22), it's 36.9 degrees in the underbelly, and 10.4 degrees just on the outside of the RV. And yes, the water unfroze, and everything works again. Yay! We carefully checked for any leaks and were happy to not find any. So, we really like the sensors. They are connected over our home network, so I can check them anywhere, anytime. The Govee app is nice and easy to use, and it's easy to add the devices. I did get one bum battery that died in the first week, but that inconsequential. The others are running strong. And they work fine with our Eneloop rechargeables. Small, precise, and wireless. Good stuff.

Great for monitoring egg incubators
I use these sensors when incubating quail eggs. They are much more accurate than the Thermometer and Hygrometer on any of the incubators I have, even the $500 incubator. The individual sensors connect with Bluetooth to my phone just like several other Govee sensors I own. With the WiFi hub in this package, I can monitor the new sensors even when I'm not home. It'd be great if the hub could support the older units I have, but overall this is a great product and a must if you're incubating eggs. Edit to add: I recently purchased another 3 sensors and added them to the gateway. While doing that, I upgraded the firmware on the gateway as well. After the upgrade, I discovered that the gateway was able to communicate with the older sensors I had. All was good with them until 9/5/24 when the gateway became unreachable via WiFi. I've tried every troubleshooting procedure I could think of and done everything that Govee Customer support has suggested, but the gateway no longer talks Bluetooth and won't connect to WiFi. Of course, it's out of warranty and they don't sell the gateway separately. The individual sensors still work so it's not a complete loss, but I'm deducting two stars from my original review and can no longer recommend the gateway. Update 9/12/24: After a bit of back and forth with Govee Customer support, they decided to send a new gateway to me at no cost. It arrived today, along with 3 more sensors, and works flawlessly. I restored the previous star rating to this review and can now recommend the product again.

Freezer alert settings limited.
I have three of these in freezers so I can make sure they stay frozen properly. They work well for that purpose. They will warn you when the battery gets low so you can replace it. The drawback is that the warning range requires both an upper and lower limit. I just want to set a limit to know when stuff is going to start thawing out. The problem is that I can only set the lower limit at -4 (operating limit in the spec for the unit), but the sensor will report temperatures below -4. So I constantly get warnings that my freezer is too cold. I want the freezer to be cold so this is just annoying. I have messaged Govee support and they have been fairly responsive, but the issue is still there in the app. They supposedly fixed it for newer models. Hopefully they will update the app for this model also.

Definintely not a scientific device. Utterly unreliable
Bought the Govee 5100's with the gateway (x2) in addition to extra 5100's to monitor snake enclosures. Obviously a bit of an esoteric use but regardless, well within the indications of these sensors and functionality. Set-up is incredibly easy. The Govee app feels like you are about to play a video game rather than set up a system of sensors and other connected devices. Not quite the streamlined professional appearance but it's fine for what it is. The sensors connect to the app seamlessly (initially) and then connect to the gateway and wifi easily. No complaints at all. Unfortunately, I don't believe anyone buys these devices so that they can connect them to an app and then walk away. These are monitoring devices for a specific use. While these devices are not lab certified equipment (I trained in biochemistry and molecular biology), they are advertised to measure within reasonable accuracy. And here is ONE aspect where this product utterly fails. When I set these up, I noticed that I was getting readings that varied by 1-2 degrees F between sensors that were nearly side by side. I then bought a thermometer with an NIST certificate to measure against these devices. This more or less confirmed that they are accurate within typically +/- 1 degree F. For what I need it for, I decided that this was acceptable so I continued using the sensors. BUT......after about 2-3 months of using these sensors and gateways I started to notice that monitoring the snake enclosures remotely was becoming less reliable despite no changes in my home wifi network. Since I travel a lot for work, remote monitoring is considered essential for me and a large reason I bought this set-up. More and more frequently, when I tried to update the sensors remotely the wifi would not update through the gateway. THEN, I started to notice some of the sensors would not update despite the wifi gateway updating the other sensors (I'm using around 12-14 sensors). The battery would indicate full yet the sensors were not updating. Changing the battery would only fix the problem about half of the time. Deleting the device from the app and reinstalling it would fix it about half of the time. The problem though is that some of these sensors would just completely stop being found by bluetooth when you try to reinstall them. Govee support has been responsive and has agreed to replace the sensors (I have still to actually receive replacements) but honestly I have no trust or confidence in these sensors and am going to probably eat the money and find something else that is reliable. I don't need laboratory accuracy but I do need to trust that when I am away the sensors I am using are actually working, are going to work and are going to last longer than a couple months. Overall, definitely would NOT recommend this unless Govee makes some real changes.

Easy Setup, Lots of Data
Easy setup, can trend data over time. Just got ever thing setup for wi - fi. Sensors are small about a tenth the size of other brand sensors. Tested remote access outside of home a mile away. Everything works! Nice feature is that you can calibrate each sensor for maximum accuracy to a known source. Cannot do this with common temp/humidity sensors. So you can get all the sensors reading the same. Using this as a remote system when I am away from home. Live at 7,000 ft and it can get cold in a hurry. I have a couple of weather systems and this was easiest to setup for remote monitoring. Data trending is great over a day, week, and month. Gave it 5 stars for easy setup, will see about reliability. Only gripe is you need a magnifying glass to read the manual. UPDATE 1 - Well it has been a week now. Spent a few days in Phoenix away from Flagstaff. Readings are reliable. Still 5 stars. UPDATE 2 - Well I added a second set of sensors and gateway. Now controlling 6 temp/humidity sensors. Called customer service which is a miracle as there a phone number; to see if a second gateway can be added. No problem it can.

Works great, super simple, very affordable
Anyone that lives in a multi-story townhouse knows the struggle of the upstairs being super hot or super cold. I wanted to know for sure how the temperatures were in the individual rooms, and the setup was incredibly easy. The app is simple and clean, no million ads. The history is clear and easy to understand, and very accurate when read with a room thermometer. Now I know at all times how hot or cold it is upstairs, and can adjust the temp on the fly. I highly recommend it.

I have these all over a house that I visit only once a week.
The house is in the country and on a different electricity provider than our house is. Also, there is a poorly insulated (by me) pump house made of metal in which I put one of these. It's difficult to get the signal to it from the house through the metal and double sided foil lines flexible insulation, but I stuck an empty plastic bottle under the edge of the doorway to this janky structure and moved the sensor closer to the place where the bottle is and the connection has since remained stable. The pump house is maybe about 80 feet away from the router inside the house, so there is a lot of stuff for the signal to get through. I needed to be able to monitor when the temperatures dropped to near or below freezing inside the house and inside the pump house. These sensors have done the truck for me through a relatively long hard freeze here in Texas. So far, I've had to replace the batteries in 2 of the 6 sensors in 2 months and it looks like I'll be needing to change the rest of them soon. They seem to go from showing 2 bars of battery remaining to none as far as I can tell. The one I have in the garage (which was the first to need changing) is already looking like it will need changing again soonish. They're easy to change, but I really would like to get them on rechargeables once I've used up all of the batteries I currently have on hand. They seem relatively accurate compared to others weather stations inside and outside the house and compared to the officially reported temps. I calibrated them all in the same room before placing them in their final positions. Getting them connected to WiFi wasn't all that straightforward, and it took me a bit of time. Once I got one done the others were all easy though. Another reviewer here detailed something they did that made it work and I followed their lead. I can't remember what it was. I did not find the installation guidance of the app all that clear nor the app itself all that intuitive. There's a lot going on in that app that seems confusing and unnecessary to me, but that may be because they have so many devices available to buy and use on a hub - I'm not sure. At any rate, in spite of my hiccups with it, I'd recommend it. Just know you might hit snags with installation and search the reviews here for some tips. Also know you'll be going through batteries and put them in places easy to reach for ease of changing them out. For the price, being able to monitor the temps remotely in 6 different areas of my property and one at a relatively long distance away from the router, this set of sensors and hub is worth it to me. It provides me needed peace of mind regarding the temps and safety of pipes and expensive pump equipment by warning me via phone notification when things are outside of expected parameters.
