Now it's all good...
Updated review-Ok, so as I mentioned, I have the alpine pdx-v9 5-channel amp installed in my truck. There were apparently some wiring issues with the truck, because I finally broke down and took it to a professional installation place and they were not only able to get my head unit dialed in, the subs fulling hitting, and backup cam working...but the bass knob actually works now. When you turn it all the way down, there is pretty much NO HIT from the subs. Turn it all the way up and you have unrestricted bass from the subs. Its really awesome for quickly adjusting the subs if they are being overdriven by a certain song. Some songs are just too heavy on the base, per my settings, so being able to quickly adjust a knob to get just the right amount of bass is awesome...that's what I was hoping for when I initially bought the thing. I am now VERY happy with this bass knob.Prev review-I purchased this bass level control so that I could quickly adjust the subs on the fly without having to go into the settings menu in the head unit. Well, I got it all hooked up and I have to say that I am completely disappointed. It says that it offers 12db of control on the package, which I guess just isn't enough control. Either that or I just got a bad one because I turn it all the way down, no change, turn it all the way up, no change. And this thing is supposed to be plug and play. I am sure I could do some testing to see if it's working properly but I pulled the entire interior of the car to run the wires...and I don't feel like taking it all back apart again to trouble shoot this little knob. I would say that you are better off saving the $30 because in my experience it isn't worth it.

Excellent! I Wish It Had Come With the Amplifier Though.
Slick. I like it. My sub box is this tiny, custom thing stuffed into the armrest console in my Jeep Wrangler. To maximize the space for the enclosure I had to make some decisions. One was the obvious one that we TJ owners have to make when building a new box for the console: ditch the storage container. Normally you do this and leave a couple of inches up at the top for the head unit's faceplate or your shades. I decided to screw down my armrest lid and build the box to the top for extra air space. This left me with a hole in the plastic for the lock cylinder. I designed a wedge cutout in the top of my box for installing the RUX Knob with the knob in that hole, just high enough to operate easily but not enough to hit your arm so that you do not accidentally reset your sub level whenever you slide your arm around on the rest. It is very slick, and the Alpine knob is great for this. My only beef is that there is only one option for the plug. It would be really great if it had two sockets: the one on the back and one on one of the sides, perhaps with a snap-in cover for the unused one. This would have allowed me to save nearly an inch of cutout to the sub box top. Great, well made product. Why did it not come with the amp, Alpine?

Essential add on for this amp!
Great to have! Easy install, nice to have fingertip control for the gain. Only negative is no specs or documentation on what it actually does, for example, in relation to the amp's gain setting. Is Min setting an attenuation of the on-amp gain setting ? Does Max just get it to the on-amp gain setting ? This appears to be the case, but would like to be sure.Update: appears to work like this: when on MIN setting, gain is now at minimum. When on MAX setting, it's the max relative to the gain setting on the amp itself.Essential add on for this amp!

Much needed
I recently installed all new door speakers in my 2008 GMC Sierra and ended up adding a sub for some more bass. I am using an Alpine PDX-V9 amp with a Sundown SD2-8 D4 sub and it hits much harder than I expected. The head unit has a sub level control but it wasn't giving me the range I needed to jump from Rap/R&B to heavy rock to jazz...you get the picture. I listen to everything and not everything sounds good when you cram in overbearing bass. This knob lets me dial in the amount of thump I want for each song in seconds. It allows you to set the gain up or down without accessing the amp. The quality of the materials is great and the dial doesn't seem to be flimsy or cheap.

Works ok but could be a little better.
I wanted this to have the ability to adjust my sub woofer as I have a Jeep Wrangler and when the top is down it changes the sound. Hookup was easy with a standard phone cord that is included. The knob gives me the ability to adjust from basically no sub woofer to about max gain. This is exactly what I needed, however the down side is the precision of adjustment. On the low end you get very little change in sound until about half way then it really kicks in. From there up the gain increases quickly which does not work well for fine tuning the gain while driving. Overall though for the the price it is effective and I am glad I bought it.

Great for what it is but totally over-priced.
Minus 1 start for being so expensive but there is absolutely nothing to it and it uses a phone cord for heaven's sake! Just sell us the box and let us provide a 25 or 50 foot phone cord, that will cut down on shipping costs and we all know phone cords are super cheap. Anyway the metal box is nicely made and sturdy. But as a tip: before you go searching for the best place to mount the box consider this... you may be able to mount just the knob through a dead button or switch for a more factory look. You can easily take the box apart with a small phillips screw driver and then you will be left with a knob and a nut soldered to a tiny board that you can stick through a hold in the dash or a dead square on your controls near the driver, etc. the board connected to the knob is quite small and will easily fit between the tangle of wire behind the dash if you wanted to mount it that way instead of just sticking a box somewhere.
