Kirk Douglas' work is well represented in my dvd library, and this is a welcome addition. An excellent view and listen, and a worthy precursor to director Mark Robson's 1956 film 'The Harder They Fall', starring Humphrey Bogart and Rod Steiger.Both films recommended.

I first saw this when I was a nipper - and since then have done a fair bit of boxing myself, hence a liking for boxing films. Kirk Douglas manages to do what DeNiro or Stallone couldn't do and that is produce realistic and quite harrowing fight scenes. You feel for him. Super film and brilliantly filmed in black and white. It has a place in my collection of all time greats!

Old classic

The word "classic" is thrown around so much these days, but make no mistake, Douglas is at his best in this great film
