The Reliable All-Rounder for Every Artist's Needs
As someone who spends a lot of time experimenting with different materials and techniques for both personal projects and professional exploration, I’ve used a lot of watercolor papers over the years, and Canson XL Watercolor Paper (7x10 inches, 140 lb) is a solid choice that consistently delivers. If you’re looking for a reliable option for quick sketches or trying out some watercolor work, this paper checks all the boxes. It’s the perfect size—compact and portable, making it ideal for moving between spaces, whether you’re in a studio, on-site, or just out in the field. The 7x10 inch format is just right: not too big, not too small, and easy to store without taking up too much space. For the price, it’s surprisingly good quality. The texture is fine and subtle—not as pronounced as higher-end cold-pressed papers, but it’s more than adequate for ink, watercolor, and mixed media. It holds up well with light washes, though if you overwork it with too much water, it will start to buckle. But overall, it’s a great option for those who need something that’s dependable and won’t break the bank. Whether you’re layering ink or experimenting with color washes, it provides a solid surface that performs without fuss. It’s definitely one of those papers that, once you try it, you find yourself coming back to. If you want a versatile, affordable paper that you can rely on for both quick studies and more finished pieces, this is a great choice.

Great and durable
Canson watercolor paper is the paper I have used and stuck to since the beginning. I'd recommend Canson to anybody looking to start watercolor painting, and it is very easy to sketch on as well.

Sturdy Watercolor Paper Wirebound Pad
Over time have ordered several of these watercolor paper books! I really like them! Books can hold up when it comes to water. Sturdy pages.. The thickness is nice and a good value for your monies!

Great beginner paper
I really love this wire bound watercolor paper. It’s not super high quality if you’re a professional (which I am not), but it’s thick and I think the paint plays well with it. I’m still learning the medium so I don’t want to buy super expensive paper just yet. I treat these like painting journals and keep them in tact in the book. It’s fun to flip through them and see how I’ve progressed in the skill and where I need to improve. Plus it’s reasonably priced if you’re just starting out. One thing to remember is try not to erase much on the paper because it messes with the fibers and then color doesn’t blend well. I think that really goes for most paper.

Love rough side and smooth on the back side
I do both graphite and water color pencils. The paper is thick. I can do graphite on the left side and water color on the right side. Perfect.

Quality
I love the canson XL watercolor paper. This is my 3rd purchase because of quality, price and I like the fact that the pages are perforated which makes it easy to take out or leave in with the spiral keeping my work together.

Many Uses for this Paper
I use this inexpensive paper for swatching, doing small mixed media projects, and learning new brush skills. I like it a lot for these purposes. Watercolor painting is not its best use but could be used for children. I like this paper and will buy more when I run out.

Pretty decent for beginneres
This was the very first watercolour journal/paper I ever bought. If you're first starting out in watercolour, I think this is a pretty decent and forgiving journal to buy before you commit to other more expensive brands. As a beginner, it allowed me to practice techniques, tutorials and experiment freely at a fairly affordable price point. However, the textures between the front and back of each sheet seem to be different. The front side of each page is more textured while the back side feels smoother to the touch and is less absorbent, imo. I did not notice the difference until I started using the back pages and consistently disliked the way the paint looked.

Faulty product seller refused full refund
Very disappointed with how the damaged paper was handled, seller refused to give full refund even though half of it is totally unusable. It is also worth noting that this paper can only be used on one side as the reverse side is like cardboard. It also has a perforated edge at the left-hand side which was not mentioned in the description, yet another reason not to buy again. I would not buy from this seller again.
