What's more american than heavily processed cheese and refined noodles packaged by a major corporation?
If you're an American over the age of 8 (or a Canadian over the age of 5) and eating solid food then you probably know what this stuff tastes like. That said, if you're not an American (or a Canadian), and/or a recent immigrant (welcome) then let me start off by saying that this stuff is more or less a defining part of American cuisine... i'm actually surprised that it's not on the naturalization test... and when I say that, i don't mean macaroni and cheese in general, i mean "Kraft Macaroni and Cheese". This is like Marmite or Vegemite if you're from England (yuck), like Swedish meatballs or that weird fish stuff that comes in a tube, it's like french baguette or Japanese ramen. This stuff is a national treasure (though, for some reason, if you're Canadian you eat more of this stuff than even Americans)So what does it taste like? Well, it's a little mis-leading... if you come from a culture that has cheese, then let me preface the rest of this paragraph by saying that you should not expect this stuff to taste like cheese, and when you empty that bag of neon orange powder out onto your noodles this will become clear, and you will be a little taken aback... but fear not! A wave of deliciousness is in bound. It's hard to describe exactly what it tastes like... I'd say; salty, milky, cornstarch with limp noodles (but that doesn't exactly market it well)There's something comforting about it and you won't be able to put your finger on it (probably the high fat content, or the salt, or the carbs... or the fact that there's probable nothing in this that's any good for you). And what's more! Once you have consumed an entire box of this stuff on your own you will be a true American! (or a Canadian). And the fun doesn't stop there. You can add stuff to it! For beginners i suggest, ground beef or hot dogs...if you're feeling like going for the advanced levels try a can of tuna fish for that extra hit of sodium... and hot sauce... lots of hot sauce.

Best boxed macaroni and cheese
No one would claim that boxed macaroni and cheese is even remotely gourmet or healthy, but it's become a staple for kids and adults seeking comfort food. However, no other company seems to be able to crack the boxed macaroni formula like Kraft has. Other brands are generally gross, either having the wrong texture, flavor, or both. Kraft's manages to be surprisingly cheesy and creamy without having a plastic or gummy texture -- a miracle when you realize that it all came from a powder. Even if you cut the amount of butter by 1/2 it still tastes great. The pasta cooks much faster than most pasta, and you can easily have dinner on the table in under 10 minutes. The only real downside of the Kraft macaroni and cheese is how dry and gross it tastes if you try to reheat leftovers the next day.The options for customizing the macaroni to add variety are endless. I usually make it with half the amount of butter called for on the box, but I melt in a slice of American cheese. Frozen peas, sliced hotdogs, and a dash of hot sauce are easy additions to add flavor or texture. I've also frequently made chili mac-and-cheese (mix in 1-2 cups of chili and cut the amount of milk in half), cheeseburger mac and cheese (add browned ground beef, bacon bits, and mustard), southwestern mac-and-cheese (add canned green chiles and corn), and buffalo chicken mac and cheese (add sauteed chicken, hot sauce, and blue cheese). The possibilities are endless.I don't often make mac and cheese from the box (it's not that harder to make real macaroni and cheese on the stovetop by adding 10oz of grated cheddar, 4 tablespoons butter, 2 eggs, 6 ounces evaporated milk, hot sauce, salt, pepper, and mustard powder to 1/2lb of elbow macaroni), but when I'm feeling lazy and still want mac and cheese I always used the Kraft Blue Box.

A perfect fit
My wife ordered 2 cases of Kraft Mac & Cheese. When they arrived I took both cases for a special need I had.One wrapped case was used to raise my computer monitor so it sits at the correct eye level for my desk. The size of the case was perfect, both for the vertical height I needed and for the horizontal base of the monitor stand. The cardboard wrapped in the cellophane provides adequate strength to hold the monitor with complete stability. The second case I broke open and used 2 boxes underneath my laptop PC to raise it up to match the height of the monitor. The boxes of Mac & Cheese are just the right height and the cardboard is strong enough to support my weighty laptop. The spacing of the Mac & Cheese boxes also allows for improved cooling airflow under the computer. All-in-all, a perfect fit.So far my wife hasn't noticed her mac & cheese is missing from the pantry. Someday I will have to surrender my new monitor and computer supports so that we do not starve, but for now they are serving a much higher purpose. Thank you Kraft for making your Mac & Cheese just right.
