Wish I had read the reviews before I purchased this item. After painting the wood slices they started to crack. The cracks were NOT small, some were cracked all the way to the center of the wood. I had to throw them away because they were awful!! Don't buy this product. Purchased others and they were all beautiful and did not crack.

I used these to make photo ornaments for my photography clients and for my own family. I was impressed they came in great shape, ready to use, and had enough twine and string for all the wood pieces with extra to spare. The ornaments turned out absolutely beautiful using just mod podge and photos printed with a laser jet printer on card stock. I will definitely buy these again!

This is the first time I've ordered this brand of wooden discs. They feel like a different type of wood than the others---a little thicker and much lighter. Almost like balsa wood. They are very smooth and easy to paint on. No cracks in the packaged wood. But---after hours of meticulous painting scenes on them (acrylic--one side) two have cracked out of the 10 finished so far. Very disappointing to have all that work go to waste. I don't like the light weight and I don't like them cracking after they're done. At least the other brand I could see the cracks before I put all the work into them. Will not be ordering from this company again.

I was so excited to get these to make Christmas ornaments. They arrived dry and the bag full weighed nothing. I knew they were "raw" and would need sealing to hopefully keep the bark from falling off and the discs from splitting. I sealed with poly, 2 coats....they sucked it up like I never put anything on them. So after 3 coats of poly and a coat of acrylic paint on one side, they are now splitting daily and the crack starts tiny and grows larger and longer towards the center of the discs. I've had them less than a week and I'm so disappointed. I'm afraid to continue making with vinyl and beads only to have them split and break in half in the gift bags before the intended recipient gets them or on their tree after they've received them. Don't throw away your money or coat them in 2 part epoxy immediately when you receive them. Bet they wouldn't split then!

I am just devastated. I am currently teaching one of the hardest classes to manage that I have ever had in all of my years teaching. BUT! Today I managed to rush though and get all of my students back to paint these to give as ornaments to their parents for Christmas. Despite the snow day Monday I thought I caught up and was actually sending home something special--until they all started cracking...and then the panic of whether theirs would crack, and the tears when they saw theirs cracked. And now I have one day and 24 students to come up with plan b after spending more than I should have of my own money (not the schools money as there is none for things like this). Please please please add to the product description that paint should not be used on these.
