2013 collection of classic tracks from the Country icon spanning the years 1962-66. On this compilation that focuses on his singles for the United Artists label, the diversity of the material is astounding. You hear Jones master all the flavors of vintage Country: lovelorn ballads, inspirational Gospel, up tempo honky-tonk, humorous novelty numbers, old-timey murder ballads and even holiday and Western songs. Right out of the box at UA, Jones hit the jackpot with his third chart-topper, 'She Thinks I Still Care' backed with the gorgeous ballad, 'Sometimes You Just Can't Win,' also a hit. Both sides of the plaintive single pointed the way to the kind of material that in Jones' hands would become his signature style, leading to such landmark recordings as 1980's 'He Stopped Loving Her Today.'

Great Collection
I bought this cd mainly for one song - The Old, Old House. It was worth it! I have been trying to find this song for over 50 years. I heard the song from an LP that my uncle had back in the 60's when I was a kid, and it has haunted me ever since. All I could remember of the song was the last two lines of the chorus ("There's an old, old man who walks in the garden, And his head is bowed in memory"). I have looked and hoped for years that I would finally run across this song on a tape or cd, with no success until Bear Family came out with their Complete United Artist boxed set. But I wasn't ready to shell out the amount of money those sets cost just to get one song. Thank goodness, now I don't have to. And don't misunderstand, there are a lot of other good songs in this collection, but many of them are available in other collections and have been for sometime. Another great aspect of this collection is that it has 4 of George's best gospel songs from the 1962 Homecoming In Heaven album (available from Razor & Tie). All in all, a very good sample of George Jones' early 60's music.

GEORGE JONES
I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CD TO ANY GEORGE JONES OR COUNTRY MUSIC FAN. I CHOSE THE FOUR RATING BECAUSE A LOT OF THE SONGS I DON'T ESPECIALLY CARE FOR, I WAS MOSTLY CURIOUS TO GET TO HEAR SOME GREAT SONGS BY JONES THAT I HAD NEVER HEARD BEFORE, I LIKED MOST BUT NOT ALL, I AM GLAD IT IS IN EXISTANCE THOUGH FOR SURE. I WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND IT TO ANY PURE OLD COUNTRY MUSIC FAN AND COLLECTOR

Love Geoge Jones - Love classic country
George Jones was a master that I didn't ever realize. I grew up on this music, but for some reason I never realized just how much he wrote and sang. I missed a LOT of his works, but I also heard tons that I just didn't realize was George Jones. Of course, I also didn't like the smoother sound of much of his work. But the guy was genius! These are excellent songs, classic country to the end.

TIMING, SADLY, IS EVERYTHING
I ordered this to fill a gap in my relatively small-- but certain-- collection of country music.I took possession of it and was listening on the day I found out the great man had died. I didn't find out AS I was listening, but a few hours afterwards, which is spooky in itself.Every song is a winner. The man was a giant.

Bought as a gift, recipient loved it
If you like George Jones, this is a great CD with all the music you'd expect it to have. The quality of the songs is good, and the person it was given to loves it. So glad they made this compilation.

One of the Country Greats
Alas, George died very recently but those new to him should check this collection out, as it gives a really clear aural picture of the man's talent and stunning voice. Revered by many he deserves to be heard by more. The lyrics are clever, witty, sad and all scooped up by George and delivered back to us as honey.

Yiiiihhhaaa !
Il apparait déjà dans deux titres de morceaux ("Big Fool Of The Year" et "Ain't It Funny What A Fool Will Do") mais il revient fréquemment ailleurs. Les titres, d'ailleurs, parlent d'eux-mêmes: "Sometimes You Just Can't Win", "A Girl I Used To Know", "Not What I Had In Mind", "Wrong Number", "I Get Lonely In A Hurry", "World's Worst Lover" ou encore l'exquis "Your Heart Turned Left (And I Was On The Right)".
