I did a lot of research on how to correct any damage or deficits caused by the alcohol and found that, among other things, I had many of the symptoms of thiamin deficiency. I also read that alcoholics don't absorb it through the intestines very well, and so I bought this pure powder supplement, hoping to overcome that problem. I rubbed the powder under my tongue because I know that from there it can be absorbed directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the GI tract. It is very bitter on the tongue but by rubbing it under the tongue, holding it there for a couple of minutes, and then washing it down with a sweet drink I can avoid tasting it. The first thing I noticed, the very first day, was that that evening I felt sleepy and for the first time in months? years? I fell asleep quickly and naturally without the aid of alcohol, sleeping pills or melatonin. I slept soundly for nine solid hours and woke up feeling refreshed and energetic. The second thing I've noticed (after three days of use) is that I have a lot more energy, and that the chronic swelling that had developed in my feet and ankles has disappeared despite the fact that, if anything, my intake of sodium has increased since I became sober.
