Is this suitable for a 5 year old? My nephew is 4 and will be 5 in January. In a conundrum!

I got this for my granddaughter a couple years ago. She will be 5 in December, and is getting a little big for it. However, she is taller than average, and towers over the other children her age; it would depend on how tall your nephew is, and how aggressive he is about rocking; my granddaughter is a wild child, and rocks it so wildly she sometimes tips it over. The good news: it is sturdy and has held up well under her enthusiastic use.

What size batteries does it take for the sounds

It came with batteries and we have had it a year without having to find out what batteris it takes. And believe me our son has pushed that button to make the horse whinny at least a thousand times by now.
