A great watch
As I write this review, I’ve owned it for almost 10 years. Here are my observations.First, it’s deadly accurate. Second, the solar charging feature is great. I have replace the internal battery once (more on that later). Third, it’s really rugged. I am very hard on watches. In my younger days, I found ways to ruin watch after watch. Third, the Eco-Drive mechanism makes resetting the watcch for different time zones and the semi-annual DST switch effortless, all you do is pull the crown out one stop and each click turn of the crown advances/retards one hour and the hands move to the new setting. Here are the things that could be better. The first one has less to do with the watch than with my aging eyes. There are a couple of cool features (stop watch, timer and E6B Flight Computer). However, they require sharp eyes to use. The watch is a bit heavy. Should I need to replace it, I would go for the titanium model, it is much lighter. This is marketed as an aviation watch (hence the E6B feature). But this particular model lacks the one feature any pilot really needs which is a separate display of UTC time. Other models have this. This is a feature I really miss. But the watch is so good in other respects, I just can’t see buying a different model. Now for the important part. About four years ago, the automatic time zone setting began misbehaving. I contacted Citizen and they had me send the watch in. As I remember, I expected to pay a flat-rate service charge for the repair. Instead, Citizen returned the watch to me with a new un-scratched crystal (I did mention that I am hard on watches) and a completely new mechanism. They didn’t charge me a penny. That’s how I got a new battery (which has a projected life of ten years). This is how a company earns a customer’s respect. I was fully prepared to pay the repair charge (about $125 as I remember). I knew that Citizen had great customer services, a former co-worker sent his watch in for service (and paid the repair fee) and got back his watch in almost-new condition. If I found myself needing another watch, I would be very reluctant to look at one from any other company.
