I started taking this with meals three years ago to wean myself off Prilosec, which I had been taking twice a day. After three months, no more GERD. I still take it to this day to increase my stomach acid for digesting food. It works great for me.

I started taking this after reading that low stomach acid can contribute to digestive discomfort, especially as you get older. I take 1 capsule at the start of a meal (never more, per the “start low” advice I’ve seen floating around), and I’ve noticed less bloating, less of that heavy/stuck feeling after protein-heavy meals, and fewer instances of reflux than before. A few notes: • The capsules are a decent size — not huge, but if you struggle with pills, worth knowing. • Timing matters. Taking it on an empty stomach or without food gave me a burning sensation, so definitely take it right as you start eating, not before. • It’s not a fix-all. I still pay attention to what I eat, but this seems to be a helpful supporting piece. • Pure Encapsulations is a brand I trust for purity — no unnecessary fillers or common allergens, which matters to me since I’m sensitive to a lot of additives. Docked one star only because I wish the bottle count went higher (250 goes fast at higher doses), and it’s on the pricier side compared to other Betaine HCl products. Would recommend if you suspect low stomach acid is part of your digestive issues — but as always, worth checking with a doctor before starting, since HCl supplements aren’t right for everyone (especially if you have ulcers or are on certain meds).

i am dealing with a health problem that this product is literally saving my life from. And learning about pepsin made me gain a dislike for PEPSI. Because of name resemblance. if you feel your not getting the most out of consuming high protein foods and if you had been "drinking," i'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice, i'd recommend considering this product. And i'd also discourage "drinking."
