Good size
Gave it as a gift when we went to see mahler 9 performed, it went over VERY well. Good size to clearly follow all parts. Attractive cover.

Outstanding, affordable score for study
This is a good quality paper-bound book. It is a study score. Not a miniature, but not, of course, anywhere near the size of a conductor's copy. The print is small but clear, and I can tell you I've seen poor quality printing in my day. Overall, Dover scores are an incredible value. When it comes to piano music, I shop around, but for orchestral scores--which would otherwise be prohibitively expensive, Dover rarely disappoints.

Essential to understanding the master's work
Mahler's ninth is a masterpiece of symphonic writing and being able to read the score critically while listening to the music itself. You can literally see the sound waves jumping off the page, and the genius within each line. The brilliancy of Mahler's 9th, as well, is owed to the simplicity of the orchestral writing, which is mind boggling to look at, as well as hear.I've always loved the Dover Music Scores, mostly because they come in large print, easy to read, and sturdy enough to relax and watch or play on a piano! Excellent addition to your collection of scores, highly recommended!

Small font but clear - and a real bargain
It wasn't so long ago that a full score of a Mahler symphony cost a week's wages. Dover has made a large part of the classical canon available to music lovers without deep pockets or institutional affiliation. Of course they must cut some corners, and here they use a very small font to get everything on the relatively small pages (8½ x 11). On some pages the font is REALLY small, but the notes are all so clear that it's quite readable - though not, to be sure, from a conductor's podium. This is a study score, not a performing score. As such, it's fine. Highly recommended.

Great piece - less than great presentation
Mahler's Ninth Symphony is surely one of the finest works ever penned for orchestra. But the Dover score, though inexpensive, is problematic. As Mr. Sawhill notes, the print is very small, surprisingly so for a fairly good-sized score. This is compounded by the poor condition of the source score used, whose faded print results in missing staff lines, several missing notes and unclear or absent accidentals. And the source is the old 1912 Universal edition, not the newer, corrected edition; a quick comparison reveals a number of missing dynamics and expression markings (so important in Mahler!). Of course you can take the time to write the corrections and changes into the Dover, but you'll need to decide for yourself if it's worth your time and energy.

Would recommend to anyone who wants to study the scoring of ...
Well printed score. Has the high standards of the other Mahler works I've purchased from Dover Music. Would recommend to anyone who wants to study the scoring of these great works and have a clear and concise score to read from. Excellent.

Great score, better for study
This a very well printed score. It's very easy to see the notes and the instrument names are printed on each stave of each page for easy reference. I would definitely suggest this product for study more than rehearsal or performing, though. The print is too small to see from a podium.
