Excellent tuner. I'm in second-floor multifamily apartment, so my antenna options are limited. I convinced the landlord to let me run the wire from an end-fed antenna down the outside of the house and around the corner. Not ideal. I was having no luck making contacts on HF, so I picked up this little guy. I'm using a Yaesu FT-991A with a no-name end-fed with baluns. After I installed it, I was not only able to use HF voice, I was hitting FT-8 digital contacts 4000 miles away. It beat the pants off the FT-991A's internal tuner. PROs: This is professionally assembled, easy to use, and compact on my radio table. If you don't need USB-C power, it comes with standard 12v pigtails to attach to a benchtop power supply. It tunes most frequencies from 180m to 70cm below 1.5SWR in a few seconds, and it doesn't appear to sap any signal strength from the original transmitter. This design is available Open Source, but unless you build it yourself, you're not likely to find a cheaper option. It's a good price. Looks great, too. CONs: This kit offers USB-C charging, but there is some soldering involved if you want that. That part is not assembled, and could be intimidating to some. It was for me, so I just wired it into my power supply with the 12v pigtail that came with the kit. The pigtail is short (15-18" or so), and the wires are only stripped about 1/4 inch. It'll be a tight fit for some users. Overall, I recommend this tuner. It's much cheaper than others that perform the same function, and it's easy to use.

I have been waiting for an affordable small ATU that I can use portable and in the shack, and this one fits the bill. I was very pleased with how well this tuner worked with my 84' random wire (w/9:1 UNUN). It is fast and I can change bands and it locks in pretty close to 1:1 (less than1.5) every time. On occasion it may land on 1.8:1 and I will press the tune button to fish for a lower SWR, no prob. I run about 15-35w. It does it's thing, you rarely will have to press any buttons. The display is great, it shows you just you want to know. The only issue I had was, I had to order new PL-259 to BNC adapters because the ones I had would not seat the center lead (it could rotate in sleeve). I then ordered (Amazon B07QVY5TSL) and perfect fit. I have been using practically every day for about a month waiting for malfunction, -none- it has been solid. (I would recommend.) Here are my boxes: 1. Covers 1.8 to 55MHZ 2. Needs only ~1w to initiate tune up. (Tune progressively in watts as you increase). 3. Works also at 100w 4. Low current draw 5. Tunes quickly 6. Not wait a month to ship from China (this guy was there in no time). Update: FYI, I have been using this little ATU almost everyday for about 3 months with no problems. Once it got confused (caused by me), and a power-cycle cleared. Never messed with the "testing" features (but nice to have). For years I used an MFJ-949 and wasted time with knobs peaking, this is a breeze. I have found that this ATU-100 EXT with AUTO and BYP is useful. For CW, tune up and tap AUTO to lock in on match, vs. accidental re-tuning in QSO. Also BYP bypass in nice to check other bands or no tuner using straight antenna. For $100, I recommend.

I bought this to use with my IC-706 series radios. It works well. I also used it with my FT-897 Yaesu recently to tune a stubborn trap multi band dipole. I have the FC-30 that is a match to the Yaesu, but it doesn't like severe mismatches (others have noted this also). This tuner worked well in its place and tuned well beyond the limitations of the FC-30. I was able to make some contacts with it in the portable environment I was using. I had no RF problems, and it tunes fairly quickly. With the Yaesu, I powered the output down and changed the mode to safely engage the tuner. With the IC-706 series, I have the tuner plug in adapter installed and it works by just pressing the tune button. I have included a photo with it setup beside one of my older IC-706 radios in the radio room. i am pleased with the product and will probably purchase another one.

So far I'm impressed. it tells you the power and the SWR by just cueing the mic. Works on my Cobra 148 GTL with or without an amp'Not bad for under a 100 bucks.

After using manual tuners for many years, I decided to treat myself to an automatic tuner. On the recommendation of other members of my ham radio club, I ordered this one, and am delighted with it. I've used it nearly daily for about six months now, and really like it. I've used it with 3 different transceivers: Icom 7300 (100 watts), Icom 705 (5-10 watts), and a kit-built QRP Labs rig (5 watts). The tuner takes less than five seconds to match my end-fed half wave wire (132' long) on all HF bands 80 through 10. If on CW, all I have to do is send a few dah's and the tuner finds a match with SWR 1.5 or better, and on Sideband I just key the mike for about a second. There are 3 buttons on the tuner, but I never need to touch them. This tuner is truly automatic. The little LED displays power, SWR, and efficiency, so you always know what's going on. To power the tuner I wired the included step-up circuit board to take 5 volts from a little portable USB power bank for a phone, up to the 12v the tuner needs. (Or, you can just feed it 12 volts from any 12v source.). No smoke, no heat; once it finds a match it just sits there until you change bands or antennas.

I will update this review after I take this unit to the local state park for my POTA use. I am using this with my (tr)uSDX transceiver (that is a low-power, or, QRP, rig). First: The review about soldiering and so on - any ham radio operator ought to know how to take the power cord and put it into use with a batter pack or other power source (12v). The included 5v-to-12v "booster" is the only thing internally needed, if you don't plan on using a 12-volt supply, but only a 5-volt USB power source. I would not do that, as I plan on using solar panels and batteries. Initial power-up takes about two seconds, then comes alive after the internal self-checks. The display is easy to read, but maybe not in full sunlight out in a park. It does not draw much current, so it will probably last all day in the park, on a modest 12v battery pack. I am using a 12v assembly for AA batteries. Again, I will do a full review and a video once I get it in the field. My initial impressions are that this is a perfect ATU for amateur radio QRP use out in the field.

Half of my cables with PL-259 connectors won't screw completely in leaving the center conductor only partially connected. Although the SO-239 connectors on the device look normal, they is something unusual about the thread or diameter. I've never had a similar problem with PL-259/SO-239 connectors before.

Most excellent - it has the qrp settings perfect ! It tunes great ! It works better than any other tuner I bought in similar range and built much better / it’s a champ !! I wish I had 3 of these

Great little tuner. Easy to use. Very quick to tune. No loud noises. Just quiet relay clicks on tune. I opened it up and the workmanship was very good. Clean solder. No cold welds. No board burns. The only thing I did was tape the power supply wires to sides of case to keep them from laying on top of the relays. But I'm ocd. I would recommend this tuner. Follow instructions and operate within parameters and it should last a very long time. Oh I did add a quick blow inline .5 amp fuse to power supply cable.
