Affordable upgrade for intermediate-level players
This review is for folks who, like me, play beyond the beginner level and find themselves somewhere in the intermediate level yet want to use a decent paddle. You'll have to excuse me as I lack the technical knowledge and jargon of the table tennis world. That being said, the handle smells like fish like everyone else has mentioned. Thankfully, the smell has dissipated significantly. The smell of the handle shouldn't stop you from buying this paddle. It really is a great value. From what I read on other reviews the rubber used (G888 and Hurricane III) is very good quality. I am able to generate tons of spin and carry a good amount of speed through my shots, yet still maintain control. The amount of spin I put on serves is just ridiculous. My friend who was on the other side of the table mentioned how much ball movement there was on my serve. I do find that I keep the ball in play more with the black side (G888) than the red side (H3). I guess I'm still figuring out how to approach the ball with the red side. It is head heavy, but not so much that I couldn't make quick adjustments. The extra weight really puts some *oomph* behind my shots. I would recommend getting the Killerspin Rubber Protector if you get this paddle, it's only $1.99. The rubber on this paddle is really tacky and you'll want something to keep the rubber free from dirt, dust, and debris when not playing. For the price versus performance it's a no brainer. Just buy it...and be sure to wash your hand afterwards because it will smell like fish. :) UPDATE: 5/27/12 After using the x4002 for almost 6 months, playing once a week (2 hr sessions) I am still very satisfied with my purchase. My initial review mentioned using the G888 (black)rubber on forehand. It didn't take me long after the purchase to use H3 as the forehand and G888 on backhand. The spin and speed with this paddle is nothing short of amazing. I regularly play with 5 other guys. Three of the guys use paddles ranging in price from $60 to over $150!!! They're always surprised that I only paid $25 for mine. After figuring out how my paddle plays I can hang with these more experienced players and many times have these guys scrambling to keep up with my shots. The one negative I have is that after over 2 hours of straight play the weight of the paddle becomes more apparent, but for $25 I'm not going to complain too much.

excellent product
I love this paddle. I have been playing with Walmart's $6 Sportcraft black/red rubber and it has been satisfactory. This dhs 4002 is an excellent next step. I got it due to good reviews and the fact that it is around $21. It plays like $100. The paddle is a bit top heavy and weights a bit more than the sportcraft. I think this is due to the better rubber. It has an orange foam and then the red and black which gives it a bit more spongy feel. It took me a couple of minutes to adjust. However, after the adjustment, I did really well after around 3 hours of continuous play with roughly 10 players of different skills and I have not lost a single set against all 10 players. I love the rubber (black and red). My forehand with the black was great but I noticed a few miss hits so I guess that I am still learning to adjust to the black rubber. On the backhand with the red rubber, I was able to return forehand cross smash that I never was able to before and I think this is due to the extra cushion over the black rubber and added orange foam over the sportcraft. I also noticed a slight smell that others described as fishy. I found that it is not the fishy smell but the soft plastic out gassing typical of many plastic things. The odor is going away slowly and I think it will be gone in a week or so just like most plastic toys. I also noticed that the rubber attract dust and oil like a magnet. I ended up rubbing some alcohol hand sanitizer which i hope won't damage the rubber. I also tried wiping off later with warm water paper towels which made the paddle brand new again. Anyway, I think I made a good choice over other more expensive paddles (stiga, joola, and whatever else north of $100). Hope this help ya decide and thanks for all the other reviews out there. Have fun playing...

Double Happiness, Double Stanky
Great paddle for recreational use with friends and colleagues whom own their own paddles. Rubber is very tacky when new and holds it pretty well. The Hurricane rubber is great for my forehand and the G888 fits my backhand as well. Overall, a great starter paddle for someone wanting to get more experience with the game. There are two downsides: The fish smell, which sticks to your hands unless you wash them VERY well after playing, and the racket is a bit heavy. I would have preferred a racket with these rubbers and a lighter bat, but for the price, you cannot go wrong. A neutral comment about the racket: when looping/driving it, there is a distinct "hollow" noise that comes out of the paddle. Not a bad thing (although I am not a fan of the noise); It may play like more expensive paddles, but don't expect it to sound like better paddles in the heat of the game.

Great DHS Paddle
This 4-star Double Happiness table tennis racquet/paddle performs very well for an intermediate/advanced player or for a beginner who is looking to improve greatly. The rubber is super tacky and I think it's really what makes the paddle so great with spin, control, and smashing. The weight is a bit on the heavier side. The handle is black with a red and yellow design (not correctly pictured on the site). It comes with one orange DHS 3-star ball (these balls play great and have a solid feel so I always use them). This paddle also does not smell like fish at all. It has a slight chemical smell on the rubber though but it is quite minor. This paddle was delivered to me around 2 weeks earlier than the estimated delivery time so the extra fast shipping/delivery was great. Unfortunately, after I received the product, the price lowered a couple dollars. When I opened the package, the paddle box was beaten up and in poor condition, most likely because the box was only packaged in a bubble wrap-lined envelope, rather than a cardboard box. However, the paddle and the ball were in new condition. For this highly discounted price, I definitely recommend this paddle to play for recreational or competitive play. It's a steal for an advanced paddle with a prominent brand.

Good starting Chinese racket
I am writing this 6 months after I bought it. In terms of quality, I've had no issues. The racket still holds up as nothing has broken or unglued. The rubbers still give good spin as I clean them with a bit of water after using them. It came with a soft case and one film protector for one rubber (I don't know if it was supposed to come with only one or if I was unlucky, I had to get another one separately). I was a little worried about the smell as other reviewers noted, but mine didn't come with any. These are Chinese rubbers, so they are hard. The black rubber came as the G888 (2.2mm) and the red one as the Hurricane 3 (2.0mm). The racket isn't fast, but it has good control. This pre-made racket is a great first choice before going into custom-made rackets.

Great Racket
I am a low intermediate player. I play at work with the guys. Nothing serious, but we get competitive and really get in to playing. So, i wanted to get my own racket, because the shared ones are all torn up. I was a bit afraid that this racket would be suited for advanced players and not work well for me, but i was wrong. It's great! After a bit of an adjustment period (a few hours of play), I found that it's super sticky compared to a generic racket and provides for way more spin and control of the ball. It also seems to make the ball bounce less off a blocked shot, which is a good thing, since you can deflect hard shots with more accuracy. The one down side to it i found is that the surface is so sticky that the dusty old office i work in leaves dust stuck all over the the face. Once on there, the dust simply will not come off on it's own. I ended up buying a kitchen sponge that i use to clean the faces of my racket (and only for that). I have to clean it fairly regularly or the action of the ball off of the surface is affected. However, once it's wiped off with a lightly damp sponge, it's back in perfect shape and as sticky as ever.

Not 1 but 2 were delivered defective
Hurricane rubber at this price? I was excited for these paddles. Unfortunately the wooden blade is extremely poor. So poor in fact that there is no true bounce off the paddle. The ball simply dies upon contact. It is possible that I got a lemon, well 2 lemons, since I ordered 2 and both were the same. But, there was no damage to the packaging at all. So I believe it is just poor quality. The 5002 and 6002 are both great paddles. I've bought several with no issues at all. Consider those. I am in the process of returning these. The seller, ATAFA, has asked for photos, which seems odd, but I complied. Now they are checking with the warehouse. For what? I have no Idea. If the seller will not accept the return, I will add to this review to advise not buying from this seller.

Ok for the money spent
I play in office and i am playing for little over an year. I can say myself around intermediate level. I have had this for 2 months now. The worst thing about this paddle is the smell from it. When I opened the box, the smell made me almost throwing it away. I thought of returning but didnt just because its not expensive and i lost my previous paddle so didnt want to wait for another. The smell still comes from it even after 2 months. The other bad part is the hollow sound while hitting the ball, it feels like not a good wood beneath the rubber. But i am kind of used to it now, as it just sounds like it and doesnt seem to be playing bad. Now the other side is that it plays very good overall. Spin and power is very good. Control comes after playing few games. Had it be without the smell it has, I would have rated it 4 to 5.

Wonderful pingpong paddle.
Order it as Christmas present for my son, my son love it so much because its high performance. He like the picture of his idol MA LONG on the paddle very much. As famous band in China, DHS is always the best.

Great Control and Spin, With Medium Speed
It's a very good paddle with great control, spin, and medium speed that too with a reasonable price. I am glad that I got Hurricane 3 on both its sides.
