Review: some drawbacks but fantastic overall! - ok, so I'm a bit worried about the handle bolt weld situation, but assuming those are rare, this is overall a really sweet dagger, and I bought a second one. I didn't want to mess the original up it looks so god. Definite notes, this is carbon steel and will rust and quick. If you handle it aka touch it with your hands, you need to oil it. Anything will do, wd-40, even cooking oil, but use oil whenever you touch or use it or it will blemish and rust. This is expected. The blade is polished nicely and looks fantastic if you intend this as a display piece, if you use this the blade will very quickly blemish due to it being carbon steel. The is normal and you can mitigate by oiling it as soon as possible after use, but just accept the fact that if you use this the blade likely going to get marked up quickly. build is fantastic. The blade is well formed and straight. My pommel is tight (so far). Edge came as good as could be expected and I was able to razer it up without any reshaping. It came with an ok usable edge, but was "expected" as far as not being razor sharp. "good enough" I really like the sheath. Most leather sheaths make me nervous, but this one is very well done. Something I don't see any other review mention, is that there is a long flap that the knife hangs from that will lift away from the straps that hold it secure when you pull it (kind of like the shape of a 7), which eliminates the worry of cutting off the snap enclosure. The blade looks fantastic on both of the ones I got, and I think this is well worth the price. I know this may seem like a lot for many people, but I think the price matches the value very well. Make sure you oil this, and I think almost any knife enthusiast will really like this. I'll update if I have durability issues, but I think this is solid and already bought a second one.

Get your saltshaker out because my level of expertise with swords is minimal. One of my tests is striking the blade with something solid and listening for a ring--and this blade rings! it's sharp, well-made, and a real weapon. By today's standards it's a short sword--the sturdy scabbard isn't medieval, the handle is plastic, but it's the right size and weight for a medieval dagger. The balance point is just behind the cross guard, making it blade-light for a period dagger (most were blade-heavy) -- great for a modern fencer, though. I weighed it at 21.5 ounces and measured the blade is about 11.5 inches long, with overall length of 18 inches. The blade is almost an inch and a half wide and there's a fuller that extends almost to the tip. It appears to have a full length tang. The handle is a generous 5.5 inches--if the math doesn't add up, the cross guard is generous, too. This dagger would also serve well as a Civil War Arkansas Toothpick!
