Easy to work with. And with reasonable care, it’s sturdy. Quite frankly, some of the negative reviews about quality are harsh. The plastic is plenty sturdy for regular use. It’s a pliable plastic that has give and bends a little, but not too much. It’s not a stiff, hard plastic that will easily snap. I use it for scaling for drawing and oil painting.

This is a very simple tool and this one will suffice. It's inexpensive and accurate and comes with instructions for anybody new to using a proportional divider. I highly recommend grabbing this to aid in any attempt at life-like drawings, especially portraiture. Faces are so important to us that it's easy for a inaccurately spaced feature to break an otherwise great drawing, with this tool it's so easy and quick to double check distances and sizes of various features of your composition.

Sooooo flimsy.

I have had the previous model for years, used it hard. It works as well as it did when it was new. I bought the new model because it appeared to offer more sizing options. It does! Slightly longer to accommodate more set-holes for more different enlargement ratios. Nothing not to love. The manufacturer left this dandy tool just as it was, except to increase the number of set-holes. Perfect. Light weight, a cinch to use and not expensive. I'm delighted and started using it instantly.UPDATE : I have used the new dividers now for weeks, and I have to say that the pointed tips on the old dividers are MUCH BETTER when working with very small references or hard to see areas (i.e., old pictures) than the newer dividers with their blunted tips. The blunter tips on the new dividers create a thickness that means that tiny measurements are not really possible. SAVE those old dividers b/c you're going to need them. ALSO, the newer dividers tend to slip slightly when moving between source and drawing. The longer legs of the divider perhaps contribute to this, and it happens no matter how hard you pinch them -- the very slightest touch/tap on one of the legs and you're back to re-measuring. I'm working on making the the divider a little harder to open and close; there needs to be a tighter fit. Still a good product and worth having for the greater range of ratios.

Measurements dont hold. Very flimsy. I was buying this from a youtube recommendation. Its probably just fine for fine art painting but for my needs doing technical precise botanical drawings I cannot recommend this.It keeps shifting and I can't get the arms to stay in one position if bumped even a little.Cheap plastic parts, not good for technical drawing enlargement the way I hoped. Looks like Im going to have to replace it with a metal one.

I have been an artist since 1985 and I'm always looking for ways to improve. This proportional divider is a great addition to my craft. I use it for copying models in a live sketch group where we are not allowed to photograph models. It holds the position well, yet is easy enough to move with one hand which you need to do constantly as you change areas of measurement. Keep your arm extended, and your shoulder square in order to measure accurately. You won't regret this purchase once you learn how to use it properly.

Cheap, flimsy plastic doesn't hold it's spacing very well. There are no markings for scale just holes that you have to use to adjust the scale through trail and error and then when you do find the scale you are looking for the spacing between the tips won't stay put, rendering it useless, I find it hard to believe that I was charged $9.99 for it!
