Does this opener notify you when the garage door has been opened?

Yes, once you get connected to wifi and get your MyQ app set up, you can tell it to notify you when garage door status changes. Not sure what the technician was thinking with his answer. I just bought and installed this device and it works as I stated.

What is different about the new version?

Remotes from older version and a ton of Homelink devices in older cars dont work on the new ones ......dont worry, they sell a device to make the homelink work, but its quite horrible....as long as they get their money......

What color is the "learner" button? My existing unit has an orange button.

The color of the learn button on the C273T/C273, is yellow.

does this garage door opener meets california rule?

This was a replacement door opener for the Chanberlin opener because the backup battery cost almost as much as a new opener. This replacement one is not quite as fancy as the previous one but it does the job.
