It shouldn't damage brick when removed, I would recommend purchasing some goo gone just in case there is leftover residue.

If you use approximately a 2" x 2" piece. Or attempt to cover the bottom of the suction cup as much as possible, that should work OK as long as your phone and holder wheigh less than a pound. What they failed to tell you in the description is that this requires a 1 inch piece of tape for every quarter pound. So you would need 4 inches of tape for 1 pound. You can't fit 4 inches of tape in the area you were trying to adhere, it's not going to work.
