Review: Works where other Stuff Fails - The product description does no say how wide this roll is. There used to be wide and narrow versions of the product. I am taking a chance a buying it anyway because the picture shows the right number of calk strands. The wooden covers of my crawlspace vents do not fit air tight, and the furnace air ducts are in the crawl, uninsulated. Between the crumbly cinderblock foundation, and the square of plywood used to cover the vents, there is an irregular gap that must be filled airtight before each winter. Tape won't stick, regular calk can't fill the big holes and regular calk will not stick to dirty or crumbling surfaces. If you use any other calk and it falls off in mid winter, you cannot re calk if the temp goes below zero. Mortite is awesome. You can use the whole width, or separate the strands to make a narrower strip. It is like pliable clay, clean and easy to work with. It used to be reasonably biodegradable, made of chalks. It doesn't bond permanently, but sticks great against brick, cinder, rotted wood the problem surfaces. Here is how I seal my vents. Remove plywood vent cover. Cut a square of closed cell foam to fit the opening. and place it into the opening on top of the screening. (I cut up the foarm mat sold to use under sleeping bags). Cut four lengths of the widest mortite (about an inch wide) and lay the strips about the opening so the center line of each strip is on the edge of the vent openting all around. The opening will be 'framed'. Press the putty lightly against the foundation, just enough to hold it it place. Carefully press the plywood vent cover back into the vent opening. The vent cover will press into the mortite lining the opening and make a great seal. Then, and this is the most important part, break off four more strips of mortite to cover the four sides of the rectangle opening. Lay each strip so half the strip overlaps the house foundation, and half overlaps the vent cover. Now you have a mortite sandwich with the edges of the vent cover. Press the Mortite tightly against the foundation of the house to make it sticke real good. Lasts all winter airtight, and my vent covers are rotted and wet. You can apply it in the winter and pull it off in the spring. It is so cheap, but I have also saved thicker strips for re-use by storing in a baggy and then using them in the out of the way places like a cellar window where I am not so concerned about the look of it being patched together. You can't beat this stuff for the price! **Q: Can this be applied outside in cold temps (20F or below)?** A: Yes, you can apply it if the temperatures are 20F or below. Please note that you need to divide the sections so that you have only the width that you need. Then you need to push it INTO THE SPACE OR INTO THE CRACK for it to stay in place. **Q: 5.5 x 5.8 x 1.2 inches? These dimentions don't even come close to the photo or a 45 foot roll. anybody have a clue?** A: Roll has 8 single strings of caulk which are rolled over and over again but are attached like licorice strings. It’s a lot and I have a 90 ft roll. The strings are a little thin an 1/8 of an inch in diameter x 90 ft long but they work. **Q: I have sliding windows, and patio door. Will the grey work good to seal the drafts on them?** A: Absolutely! I wasn't sure how good it was going to be so I ended up ordering more. I bought the wood - colored one as well to put on places where wood meets the sill, as I could feel air seeping in. I can't say how great this stuff is. I've got it on all my windows. It's very easy if you need to adjust it and taking it off is a breeze. You can peel it off in whayever is needed....thin, medium or thick pieces. It's inexpensive as well! I needed to write this review for you because I believe when you're going to buy a product...it's nice to hear from someone who has used it if it's good or not. Noticeable difference *by M***Y on January 31, 2019* I would like to add a few tips/tricks that I learned while working with this product. First, you will get better results if you peel at least two lines together. If you try to peel one off by itself it will not be as strong and it tends to fall apart. Secondly, it was cold out of the package so I tried warming it up with my heater to see if it was more workable while warm. I do NOT recommend warming this product as it made it more unstable and harder to maneuver. Though it seems hard to deal with while cold, it is definitely the easier way. Make sure that your surface is wiped down well. I had a few areas where I couldn’t get dust off and it was obvious the putty stuck to that and not the actual surface which in turn made it fall off.. There were a few times it would peel off even with a clean surface and I am still working on tricks to figure that out. If I can come up with a solid solution I will update this review and share it with everyone. Overall, I noticed a difference covering only three windows. Though it says 90ft, it doesn’t go as far when having to use thicker sections. This product however, is more than affordable! I plan to buy more and cover the rest of my drafty windows! They are single pane and always letting in cold air.
