Was it a gimmick to sell more stuff to coffee addicts? The tldr is I'm glad I got it. If you're not grinding your own coffee (or using a spice mill) and haven't invested in a scale or dosser, you probably need to address those issues before investing in a filter like this. This filter has helped make my coffee more consistently good because it allows for the coffee to be compacted more in the portafilter. This allows for the extraction to happen with higher pressure. The coffee is better tasting and there's more volume to the crema. The puck is drier and comes out easier than before. The time saved cleaning the portafilter can be spent rinsing out the filter if you want to, but it's generally clean after a pull because the water flows one direction. It's wet, sure, but clean.
