Are the cows grass finished as well, not grass raised then finished on grain before slaughter?

Thanks for your question.  The cows are not necessarily grass finished. While they are grass fed, the cows often have a 3-4 day transit/waiting period before slaughter, so they are often fed grain before slaughter. Keep in mind that a cows digestive system is much different than ours' and many other animals. Rather than having a "single pouch" stomach (like humans and dogs), cows have a "four pouch" stomach; making digestion a slower process. It often takes 3 days for a cow to fully digest its feed. The meat of the cow is one of the first areas to absorb any nutrients. The cattle hide is one of the last. Therefore, it is very unlikely that anything the cow eats in the last week of its life will be absorbed into the hide. Since our collagen powder is made from the cattle hide, the way the cows are "finished" are really not a concern.  Let us know if you have any other questions.

Is this the same as bone broth collagen?  if not how is it different?

Thanks for your question.  Collagen supplements are often derived from either cow, pigs, chicken or fish.  Collagen is found in skin, hides, bones, tendons and fibrous tissue.  Depending on the source of the collagen determines if the collagen is considered Type I, Type II or Type III.  These 3 types of collagen are the most common and each offer similar and different health benefits.  Type I collagen is the most abundant found in the human body.Our BioOptimal Collagen Powder is made exclusively with bovine (cow) hides.  These hides contain Type I & III collagen.  While other products advertise themselves as bone broth powder and are likely made from bones (or a combination), our product is not made from bones.  So the similarities are that both contain collagen, but possibly different types of collagen and therefore a different amino acid profile since they are sourced differently. Thank you for asking the question.  Our product is made 100% from cattle from South America.  The cattle are pasture raised, which is the standard for South America.  The cattle are also grass fed.
