Cant even handle how good this guy is
Im leaving this review, which is almost exactly the same as the one I left for Bombino's other album "Nomad":I cant even handle how much I love this musician. When I heard the first 2 chords of this record, I got a kick of adrenalin, my eyes went wide, my jaw dropped, and I remember thinking, "WHAAAT??!!". I do however, have to admit that when the vocals came in - I wasn't so sure. NOT because this guy cant sing, but because honestly,I didn't know if I could get use to listening to another language. I kept it in my wish list for a bit and went back to it 3-4 times re- listening to the samples. Quickly I was pulled in more and more until I realized one day I was singing some song is some other language as I was doing the dishes.. it was crazy. I started looking into who Bombino was, reading his story and finding out more about him, because I was so curious about a guy who was making music I couldn't understand but still loved. The last thing I did before I ordered both of his cd's was watch the official video for the song "Azamane Tiliade", off his album "Nomad" ... And with that, it was a done deal. These guys are just letting it all out in the studio, and though it sounds corny, IT DOESNT EVEN MATTER that I cant understand him. I don't care. This guy is so far beyond talented and full of so much life, you cant help but sway back and forth with them....its like a trance. Honestly, it almost makes it better that I cant understand a lick of what he's saying because I started to focus on the affliction in his voice instead. Its a pretty unique experience when you get a strong feeling just from the tone of a persons voice. This record is a giant combo of everything I personally love, and one thing I didn't know I loved: garage/dirty rock/blues/soul/funk/ with a native flare. Talent oozing out of each note. He's crazy! If yore tentative, its so beyond worth it to take a chance because I cant even imagine NOT having this cd along with his other, "Nomad"", which is a bit more polished, however neither outshine the other in my opinion. They are both so great in their own way. Hope this helps you decide to give it a go

Escape to the dessert
This is a wonderful album to escape with. Steep some tea or brew some coffee, relax and imagine yourself among fans and family alike who want to bob and sway to melodic guitar rifts.

Bombino
Who does not love Bombino, does not Love Music. It's really quite that simple...I Love Bombino and I Love Music. This music is timeless and new. It is accessable yet beyond me, always beckoning me to come near, get closer, taste, and touch, drink from the well and laugh at the pleasure of and the taste of what comes from the wells. You will get thirsty again and come back to drink...It is very pure music. It is Kind to me. It let's me listen without slamming me. Music should make a person Happy. I have no idea about the words as they are not in English. I do not care, because it does what it's suppose to do. It satisfies my thirst.

Fans of Hendrix and Mark Knopfler will definitely hear something they like on almost every track
Bombino's story alone is worth reading the description! This has to be the most intriguing collection of songs I have come across in a long time...North African rhythms accompanied by acoustic/electric guitars and vocals in the native Tuareg language are so exotic, yet familiar to me. It as if I can feel what he is singing without the need to understand. Very Primal. There is an otherworldly spirituality present throughout. Fans of Hendrix and Mark Knopfler will definitely hear something they like on almost every track. I recommend listening to Ahoulaguine Akaline on a system with a sub and the bass turned up. You will become immediately entranced...So glad I found this gem!

An Amazing New Sound!
It's such a treat to discover new music. Unless you have listened to Bombino, you have not heard this sound before. I heard about this guy on NPR and bought the album. Bombino has a fresh new guitar sound that is lilting and hypnotic. He's a Berber tribesman that could have been Jimi Hendrix if he grew up in another time and place. Music has a lot of traditional Berber feel with a modern electric twist.

though more mellow than Nomad captures some really nice sounds and emotions
I was lucky enough to see this band earlier in the year and this record, though more mellow than Nomad captures some really nice sounds and emotions.

Beautiful
Bombino is an amazing guitar player and one of the best live performers I've ever seen.I initially bought Nomad, after reading about it in Rolling Stone, then went back and bought Agadez, which is his first CD. I love it. It sounds like the desert, open and clear--the first song, in particular. It doesn't matter that you can't understand the words; you can feel what he's saying.

different
While his guitar playing is wonderful, his singing is less so to an ear used to European languages. The piece I heard on the radio did not mention the singing. Listen carefully to the music before you buy.
