Place this fan on top of your wood burning, coal, pellet, or gas stove. It starts working automatically once the temperature reaches 185 degrees Farenheit. It circulates warm air throughout the room at a rate of 130 cubic feet per minute. This distributes heating evenly around the room with no excessively hot or cold spots. You'll be able to use your stove as a main source of home heating. When you get the most out of your stove with the simple addition of this fuss-free fan, you're doing something good for the environment. Burning wood in a stove is a low-emission and affordable way of generating a lot of heat. No batteries or electricity are required. The fan generates its own electricity when the back end is heated by the stove pipe and the front remains relatively cooler. The fan is mounted on a sturdy, flat base. There is a small handle on top of the fan so you can adjust its position while it is moving. Silent operation. Comes with a free wood stove thermometer for added safety and efficiency.

Excellent fan and price
Very well made! And it comes in a very nice box. The upper half of the device is separated from the lower half by a thin thermoelectric generator. Heat is conducted from the stove top through the base and through the generator into the top part, where it is dissipated by the large surface area. This heat flow creates an electric current that runs the fan motor. The hotter the stove top, the faster the blade spins. It’s a great way to harvest more heat from the stove and transfer it to the room air. And it’s fun to watch and contemplate, as well as being an intriguing conversation piece. The fan is barely audible when it spins. With free shipping, I paid $49.95, and got a free Boone Hearth magnetic thermometer for the chimney pipe, which by itself would have cost me $15.95; that’s the thermometer I was going to pick anyway, so it was a great deal all around.

Very happy with this fan
I have a small propane stove in my bedroom. The remote thermostat control for it is actually lower than top of our bed. What happens is, stove comes on in middle of the night and is super quiet. I don't wake up until I am cooking hot, which is usually about 15 minutes before thermostat turns stove off. I bought this fan, hoping it would 1- work with my gas stove and 2- move enough air to keep us from cooking. The first couple of stove fire ups, the fan didn't budge. I went over and whipped the blade by hand and it stayed running. After doing that about 3 times, it now starts on it's own, and is doing exactly what I hoped it would do. Maybe it just needed to get hotter on the first couple of tries. It moves the air, quietly, and efficiently.

Works well, but for how long?
There are two parts to this review. First, the fan: I received it in Sept 2018 and used it on my wood-stove. It worked well, mixing the air around the stove to more uniformly heat the room. It is an effective, low-cost option that I think adds to the benefits of a stove. Unfortunately, beginning in late Jan the fan began to develop a wobble as it turned on its axle, and began to emit an annoying sound that within a few weeks evolved into an intolerable racket. By Feb it was consigned to the garbage.Second part: with very little hope of resolving the situation (the Amazon warranty had expired) I e-mailed SHOP CHIMNEY , the company that had fulfilled my order with Amazon, and explained the problem. This was on a Sunday. Monday afternoon I received an e-mail from them, expressing regret for the malfunction and promising to replace the fan. That Wednesday I received the new fan.Two things that I have gained from this experience: the fan works works well and is a net-positive when not making noise (the new one is silent/ I'll revise the review if it fails). On the other hand, I have no reservations about SHOP CHIMNEY . Their customer service is excellent. Try to buy from them if you can. They apparently appreciate your business.

Blades turn, but don't move warm air in any measurable/noticeable way....
Well the blades do turn round and round, but as for moving significant air, I can't say it does that. I had it spinning very fast sitting on the back/side of a very hot stove, where they tell you to put it, and I could hold a ribbon in front of the blades and it sort of flutters, right at the blade. So yes, the fan does turn the blades when the stove is hot, but as for actually moving enough air to make a difference in heat distribution, nope. It looks cool sitting there and spinning, so I'll keep it, but it's an attractive 3 pound spinning paperweight.

This fan works great. Buyer beware
This fan works great. Buyer beware, read the directions. In very small print it says it works up to660*F. After that it is junk. Not a problem as long, as long as you know this ahead of time.Having this warning in bigger print would be the right thing to do!

Works fine, but it is much smaller than I had hoped for - BROKE AFTER ONE WEEK
This little fan works fine. As soon as the temperature on my wood stove reaches a certain point it starts running and pushes a moderate of air into the room. I should have bought 2 or bought the double fan they sell. Bottom line, it works fine, but for a large room, it does not make much of a difference, nothing like a ceiling fan would.Update: The little fan broke after one week of operation. Not recommended.

Works good, but doesn't move much air.
This fan works ok, and as described, but it really doesn't move air. I had over cooked some bacon, so there were wisps of smoke floating by, about 8 inches away, lit by the morning sun shining through the window. The fan didn't seem to move that smoke at all. Don't get me wrong, I like it, just don't expect it to move a bunch of warm air.

BUY IT! This is totally work it.
Amazing product. Pushes the warm air into the house. I LOVE that it is QUIET and that it does NOT blow a lot of air. I hate having air blowing on me and this fan just gently pushes it into the room. I highly recommend this!
