do these bake pans require a special cake mix?

Are you referring to capacity? This pan says it hold 6 cups, about the same as an 8 x 8 square cake pan. I have many, many Nordic pans myself and have given several as gifts. They all bake up wonderfully as long as you follow the general rule of thumb - fill them no less than 2/3 and no more than 3/4 full for a perfect finished product.

What are the inside dimensions of this pan; I see that the measurements provided include the handles??

Mine in 10 1/2 x 5 inside. It holds a regular home made breads recipes no problems.
