You aren't trying to hit the wax with a squirt (in my opinion), you're trying to use the squirt to create a powerful movement of all of the water that you've got in there and that is what reaches behind the wax and shoves it out. Squirting at it won't likely do that. But the turbulent vortex pushes water "here" and moves it "there" because water compresses so little. for the water to move from here to there some of the water there has to flow outwards, and that's what it does. I don't think that's obvious or clear in either the instructions or the general concept. I hadn't considered what a trick we're playing on the wax but pushing water towards it in a powerful way we are forcing water behind it to move out of the way, and that water behind it getting out of the way brings the wax with it. The combination of the ear drops to loosen the wax and the spray bottle to flush it out gently is probably the safest and most effective way to remove stubborn ear wax. Note that you may have to do it a few times to get it completely clear, but this method ensures that you're not sticking anything into your ear canals and risking injury in doing so.
