Use dry lube in the gear housing.
Super easy to use and pull parts together extremely well. For the reviews saying they won't turn, add some dry lube to the inner gearing, I did this to one that was a bit tough to turn and it works perfectly now.

Practice on scrap wood first. Use carbide hole saw.
Holds very well. I feel it was worth the price.

terrible product
The ut would not seat on bolt. Very stiff movement. Would not seat after several attempts. Finally got stuck and would not back off - could not remove - runined $300 section of railing. I also purchase the jig set - that is of no value It does not seat accurately on the end of railing. It does not support the needed drill sizes to for this product. It is critical to align the bore holes and to keep them true, which is very difficult without a jig - and the jig tool that jip bolt sells, again, does not support the bit size needed for this product.

Buy the correct version.
I needed a method to re-attach 2 rail sections after refinishing a 96-year-old staircase. This one 'worked', although it's designed for another shape/size. Boring is crucial, and terrifying - I had ONE chance. I managed a kinda/sorta/it'll do, and it did eventually locked in. I'd advise others to be more careful and buy the correct version, and to expect lots of cursing as part of the job. I chose to do the finish with the connection in and plugged, since I wasn't willing to waste another few hours cursing up a storm.

Does The Job
Definitely does the job connecting stair rails.

Great system
Fastener is strong, easy to install and remove if necessary. Better than the old way of using a wrench in such an awkward position.

Not for the casual handyman
Precise boring is critical for alignment and threading. Had ti try two separate zip fasteners to succeed with fastening

Great Bolt
Use it to join 2 lengths of stair rail. Was unable to find it in any of the local hardware or building supply stores - clerks looked at me as if I was crazy. These work excellent - nice tight joint. Highly recommend.

Be Super careful when tightening
These are fór low profile handrails, as most other zipbolts don't work and thatcinfo isn't offered. N.B. be VERY careful about over tightening these. They strip very easily and if that happens they can't be removed or tightened further. I tried to dry fit the handrails loosen and glue but the bolt threads stripped and couldn't be removed. This happened using a handheld ratchet screwdriver. Carefully tighten by hand until it is snug and the parts are secure, then loosen, glue and tighten up.A great idea, just could use stronger materials.

Don’t get tight enough
Don’t tighten strong enough. These are a great idea, but the gear system within the bolt does not tighten strong enough to clap the rail together the way it needs to be. The first one I used stripped out and had to be taken apart the second one barely did the job and may still yet fail. It’s a great idea. That doesn’t quite work. Regular lags with a nut are much more reliable.
