Yes, It worked for gymnastics mats, and i also use it to stop my mattress moving on my bed frame .

Do you have to do anything to it make it grippy? Just bought some and it just slides on the tray.

I lined the bed of a Ranger with it. Once ya put a bit of weight on it the stuff rarely moved. I had a couple of plastic boxes on it to stop stuff rolling around and it worked fine.
