Wasserstein Solar Panel for Google Nest Cam Outdoor - 2.5W Solar Charger

Had this for a few weeks. It works great and never had to worry about charging the battery every few days. Highly recommended!

Works great, bought another after the first charged the camera!! If camera is fully charged, it will maintain. Depleted camera will take a few days to get charged. Really fantastic quality. I recco!

It's doing a wonderful job! I needed a way to power my camera for my bake stand.

Update 10/10/24 Well, I’m sorry to say that I forgot to do the update on this. But for good reason… I have now had the replacement up in place for over a year now and I have had zero issues with it. It has constantly maintained the charge on my camera, even through last years winter, where I receive less sunlight up here in Western Washington. I would like to thank the fantastic customer support people for providing me a replacement device that not only fixed the issue, but has outlived the original product. I’m happy to update this review to a five star. Update - 5/28/23 - I received a replacement panel from the customer support reps of the product. It has resolved the failed device status and I am upping the review to 3 stars. I will provide additional information in approximately 4 months. That duration of time will be after the original one died. Original review - Easy to install. Used the same brand 2-in-1 gutter mount for the panel, as I already had the camera mounted above my garage. The cable management clips the panel comes with are garbage and I ended up using my own. The panel worked from Jan 31st when it was installed, through May 4th (possibly stopped working earlier). TL:DR - stopped working just outside warranty period Story time... I had some landscapers doing some work putting bark down in the planters in my back yard. The bark had been delivered to the front driveway, so naturally there was a lot of activity in the driveway where the camera watches. Due to this, the battery in the Nest camera drained much faster than normal. "The solar panel must not have been able to charge it as fast as the camera was consuming," I thought. I charged the camera from USB wall power, like I had at least one other time since getting the solar panel. It charged to 100%, I got the notification on my phone that it was full, got out the ladder, reinstalled the camera, and reattached the solar panel cable. When I got down from the ladder, I checked the phone to make sure the viewing angle was good. The camera was showing a battery percentage of 100%. When plugged into solar, (on the iPhone anyway) the app shows an infinity symbol instead of a battery percentage. So for whatever reason, there was no power going to the camera. I got back up on the ladder and made sure the cord was sitting snugly in the port and was in the correct orientation, yep. I then moved the ladder to the panel and made sure there was nothing on it that was blocking sunlight. Looked clean to me. Still no power. It's a simple device. Not much for an end user to mess up. Panel points towards sun, attached cord plugs into camera. It is unacceptable that a device with no moving parts, designed to sit and absorb sunlight all day, could fail so quickly. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the failure of the Wasserstein solar panel for my Nest camera. Despite following all the instructions (as limited as they were) and ensuring that everything was installed correctly, the panel failed and is no longer charging the camera battery... just outside of its warranty period, too. This cost me not only the money spent on the panel and mount but also my time and effort in installing it. Now, I am left with the options of either paying someone to run a cord into my garage and install a new outlet or going back to manually charging the camera every so often.

I recently bought four Nest cameras for outside of my home and the battery life I have gotten so far is not terrible but not what I had hoped for. With winter coming, I imagine that battery life will be cut down quite a bit. Naturally, I started looking into solar panels and came across these. With some research, and a recommendation from my friend, I ended up getting these ones. There are a few other options out there that are cheaper but, all I can say is do your own research and read the reviews. Incredibly easy to install, just uses two screws which are included with anchors. Adjustability is pretty great also. You can tilt the panel as well as turn the whole mount so you can really angle it where you need it to be aimed. Only con I have seen so far is the cables are a bit short for my needs for one of my cameras. That of course is no fault of the manufacturer. I will be looking into an option to add an extension onto this but am unsure at this time if there is one available. All in all, I would highly recommend getting these panels to save you from having to charge your Nest cameras every few weeks/months.

Overall it's a good product and I have no direct issues with the product or Wasserstein. My caution with this product is a feature of the product it is designed to be used with, the Google Nest Cam Outdoor or Indoor, Battery - 2nd Generation. After opening a case with Google Support and much back and forth, they shared that 24/7 video recording through a Nest Aware Plus subscription is not supported with use of this product. This is not readily document on this products page or Google's. If 24/7 video recording is not a feature you will be using this is a great product and will help prevent the need for charging. If 24/7 video recording is a feature you need, USB charging (or the wire flood light version) are the only options.

I installed these Wasserstein solar panels on multiple Google Nest battery cameras to avoid climbing ladders and manually charging. The results have been terrible on some cameras and inconsistent overall. On the bad side, one Nest camera failed after about one week on this panel and another failed after about three weeks. Both went offline and then completely died – no LED, no chime, and no response even when plugged into the original Nest charger on multiple outlets with known‑good cables. I tried all the usual troubleshooting (different chargers, outlets, long charging times, reset button), and neither camera will power on at all now. I do still have two other Nest cameras on these panels that have been working for a couple of months so far. However, seeing two cameras die so quickly while on these panels makes me very nervous about the long‑term impact. Before failure, the panels also did a poor job of keeping the batteries fully charged; the cameras would slowly drain to 0% and sit there, which is terrible for lithium batteries and likely contributed to the failures. Bottom line: these panels might seem to work for a while, but in my case they have already killed two cameras in a matter of weeks. I no longer trust them on any of my Nest cameras and would not recommend them to anyone.

Five stars for product quality and ease of attaching to camera.. The camera it is connected to no longer shows the battery symbol but does say the camera can’t record 24/7 because “ This camera is using solar power. It can't record 24/7 video history unless it's connected to line power”. Will see. The area of this camera I would have to run several extension chords to have line power and I prefer to not have that running across the yard. Will update in about a month before my return window is closed to see if I’m keeping it and it functions properly.

Love these solar chargers!! Has saved us having to bring our cameras inside to be charged. They have worked great in all weather conditions and keep our cameras up and running!
