Jeweler's Diamond Testing Pieces-Professional Loupe and Electronic Diamond Tester Machine

The diamond tester is super easy to use, and was perfectly accurate for my purposes. It comes with a little holder for loose gems, and a rough gauge for the weight of your stone (which I did not need for loose stones, because I have a scale, but which turned out to be handy for guesstimating the weight of set stones without having to remove them from the jewelry).The loup was not exactly what i had expected, but fine for just getting a closer look at a stone. What was so great, though, is that when I mentioned the issue to the seller, they went out of their way to fix it for me, which I think was darned generous! Very happy with my experience, here.

I bought this to carry with my while I do my metal detecting. That way I will know if that ring I find has a diamond in it or not and I can find out on the spot. That way it wont drive me crazy. It comes with a battery and a leather carry case. It is not hard to use. all you have to do is turn the "on/off volume" dial to adjust it according to temperature and size. I tested my known diamonds and fakes and it does work well. The loope is also a good on. Nice shiney brass and comes in its own plastic hard case. For the money i do recommend.

I ordered the Culti "brand" but Amazon substituted an identical-looking tester labeled "Puritest P7". I placed this order because the version I had previously bought, labeled HDE, was defective (constant beeping regardless of dial setting). The good news is that the Puritest one I received today does behave as described in the instructions and did correctly identify my wife's diamond ring. It did not react at all to her fake diamond earrings. Bottom line, I believe all these $15-20 testers are pretty much the same, are able to identify diamonds if used correctly, and getting one you're happy with is luck of the draw. BTW, don't trust YouTube videos on these testers because it's obvious that most YouTubers have not read the instructions. Good luck!

It took me a little while to figure it out, I refuse to wear glasses, so I wasn't going to be able to read any instructions. Generally speaking, if you have real diamonds the meter is going to pop up, and you don't need to worry too much about calibration. In the back, there's a chart where it's supposed to match the temperature and you're supposed to put your finger on the metal and then there's this other metal piece that I can't figure out what it's for. But I have found that if you put it at around 4 and you put the needle on a diamond it's going to go up. But the volume is also linked to the meter, so that's where it gets a little confusing, so you just have to dial it down so it doesn't go up too high because if you dial it all the way up, literally everything you touch will make it beep. There was a video review on this but he simply just did not have it at the right level. I truly felt I found a diamond or possibly a moisinite, by the way, all of these meters are pretty much made from the same company, whether they have a stamp to the right or not, and if it's Moisinite, it is just as hard as a diamond, so it is going to register as a diamond. That's what gets a little bit tricky because obviously you don't want Moisinite which is about 10% of what a diamond costs. However, my research showed that Moisinite throw a lot of color, and diamonds do not, diamonds might have a little bit of blue but not rainbow type colors which cubic zirconia and Moisinite will have black inclusions. Moisenites are pretty clear, but they might have thin rods in them or little areas where they're discolored. Just a little Moisinite diamond trivia. I went to the thrift store today and I was really hopeful, and the machine was not quite right at first went up and beeped for diamond and so I went home and got my real diamonds and came back. I put the meter around 4 and it went straight up on my diamond and then I moved over to the pre-owned ring at the thrift store and it barely moved. My ring has several diamonds on it so I kept going back and it kept going up but then when I went back to the thrift store ring it barely went up. If you want a lot of people breathing on you, I don't I'm still in a mask, haha, turn on a diamond reader, people come from all around and they get very close to see the result. A woman leaned in and was looking and told me she wished she had brought her reader and that the best thing to do is keep it on level 2!!! She also said to put better quality batteries than what comes because that helps and I'm going to do that as well. Anyone that's still awake reading this... I think the key is to 1) keep it at level 2. 2) Have a real diamond nearby and then go to the piece what you want to measure. In fact I'm going to always one off it with a real diamond I'm measuring because I can watch how it raises, how fast, it really gives you a much better read. I'm hoping this helps someone because you really don't want to go through my I Love Lucy learning curve with this.

We ordered this tester and loupe from PuriTEST to test diamond and rhinestone jewelry prior to reselling it. We did a "control group" with jewelry we knew were diamonds to become familiar with the process as this was our first tester. We had so much fun testing jewelry! We had this old bracelet that we thought had large rhinestones. Turned out they were real diamonds! This tester more than paid for itself in just what it saved us with that bracelet. It gives off a different sound if you are touching metal. The loupe was a great bonus and shows amazing detail. Excellent tester and very easy to use.

30x means 3 x 10x and lens quality is china grade - distorted. you get what you pay for, cheap.Have not used the testing tool, looks and feels like cheap china quality you know what i mean stuff. will update once i use it on some real and simulated stones.
