Does this mic require a lot of gain??

Since the sensitivity is -53dB, it will require more gain then a similarly priced condenser microphone, like the AT2020. However, because of the way this microphone is used (very close to the mouth), you should not have any issue with this, as long as you are using a reasonable quality microphone preamp/interface. The media could not be loaded. Best mic for podcast in my experience. Noise cancellation is so good even fan sound and home noise. Also works well in focusrite scarlett solo 3rd generation.Definitely go for it.

I was in dilemma whether to buy rode podmic or AT2040, finally I chose the latter which is 40% cheaper and produces the same audio quality. Never go for rode which is unnecessarily expensive. Go for AT2040, you won't regret.
