Puramino

This stuff is very expensive, but my baby just can't eat anything else. She still has problems with this formula, but it is much much better than with the other formulas. We tried both soy formulas, Gentalease, and Nutremigen first, with no luck. The doctor suggested this. She doesn't scream and cry nearly as much. Hopefully she will be able to digest proteins soon. The doctor says we probably only have to make it to the 4 month marker! It is cheaper here on Amazon than in Meijer at the moment ($42 vs $48), but you can't use the Enfamil coupons, so its close to the same price. They were able to deliver the next day for me too, so we never ran out. Pretty pleased about that. You should know that the formula smells worse than other formulas, and has a taste to it that a lot of babies don't like. If they are hungry enough, they will eat it. My daughter took to it with no issues. The container is a LOT smaller than other formulas, but so is the scoop. You use one scoop per ounce, and 2 scoops of this is less than one scoop of the other formulas I've tried. One container lasts us about 2.5 days, but I have a very hungry little hippo.

My baby girl has a very bad colic. She was diagnosed with Sandifer syndrome. PurAmino is the only formula that she has been able to digest safely and give us the peace of mind that she won’t cough or spit up after feedings. It’s pricey but definitely worth it. Ask your pediatrician about writing a LOMN to your insurance to have them pay for it

This formula has kept my son healthy and growing strong since only a few days after birth. We had a very difficult first few months that began after starting him on a regular infant formula at the hospital. Despite noticing a lot of spitup, we were assured that it was normal - and this being our first child, we didn't really know any better. After being discharged from the birth stay, things progressed and worsened, my newborn son started to look withdrawn, his color was bad, he was fussy constantly, and he was projectile vomiting after every bottle. We were rushed back to the hospital at 4 days old and spent a week there trying to determine what was wrong. Come to find out, it was a severe milk allergy. They started us on nutramigen but he was still unable to process that so PurAmino was the next step. I was lucky enough to be in a city where a PurAmino distributor delivered us a sample right away so that we could stop feeding my son the formulas his body couldn't handle. Within a few days, he had a complete turnaround. He was alert, happy, and finally putting weight back on. He is now 16 months old, very smart, and since getting him onto PurAmino, he's been growing at a steady rate. He's now 98% in height and 95% in weight and quickly transitioning onto solids. But, one of the best things about PurAmino is that the taste he grew to love and depend on since birth is one that can stay with him until he is fully weaned from bottles at 2 years of age. As a mom to a child with such a severe allergy to dairy (and soy), I feel comfortable knowing that he can get the nutrition he needs from this formula for a little bit longer than the classic 12 month mark. That lets me sleep better at night... and keeps him growing strong and healthy. I don't know where we would be without PurAmino. It is expensive, but given the options we were facing, I couldn't be more thankful to have had access to this formula. And, for what its worth, I always purchased it from Amazon directly which made the hectic chaotic life with a newborn just a tad simpler too!

Update July 2020: I had a second child in 2019. Same issues minus the food allergies (he has to be tested). I had a milk supply, but my child reacted to it. Had to stop breast feeding. My child has reflux with milk protein allergy - his butt was raw from diarrhea and his reflux was triggering. I already knew the signs and got the prescription for Puramino from our MD, and had the prior authorization done by her. We filled it with CVS this time, and have had no issues ordering refills. As soon as he started the formula, his butt cleared up within a few days, burping with no regurgitation. We had solid stools. He's been on it for over a year, drinking it like a champ. Still can't tolerate milk, even lactose free milk, and has reflux (using First Lansoprazole aka Prevacid); but going to try to switch over to Puramino Jr, hopefully that goes well too. I could not recommend this formula enough. It is a lifesaver. Old review: My son is five now, but had severe reflux along with a milk allergy and food allergies for the first 3 years of his life. This formula saved his life. He could not tolerate any formula, not even Pregestamil or Elecare. They would trigger the reflux. I had resorted to trying to start my milk supply again, and then I came across Puramino. I received a sample from Enfamil, tried it and heard my son burp for the first time unassisted. I started crying. My son started putting on weight steadily from there, only having issues when we had to change medicine for reflux to Prevacid, because Ranitidine stopped working. I paid a lot for Puramino out of pocket, but it can be covered by insurance, do a prior auth with your doctor. I used to get my monthly supply from Walgreens, until my son was weaned. It was so worth it.

***UPDATE: Our daughter is now 15.5 months (dec. 2019) she was started on this Dec. 7, 2018. At 9 Months we were able to start mixing PurAmino with enfamil and by 12 months she was completely on enfamil. We started whole milk at 12.5 months and even now At 15 months she is now drinking whole milk with absolutely no issues. This formula is a miracle. It really is. It helped solved so many issues. Our daughter no longer has to see a pediatric GI doctor. She has been discharged from the clinic! She outgrew her reflux, milk and protein intolerance. We were able to take her off all of her meds for her stomach issues at 6-7 months old. This stuff is expensive and we often had to go between ordering at pharmacies and ordering on Amazon because prices would rise and lower. I am so grateful that my daughter is able to consume dairy and has no allergies. Under the direction of a doctor, if you’re recommended this, give it a go. Our daughter had issues with the taste and constipation at first so we tried other protein-formulas and ended back at this one. I would give this formula 10 stars ⭐️ If I could. ———— My daughter has sever reflux, milk allergy, a protein intolerance to where she can’t digest proteins, and trouble gaining weight. Our pediatric GI doctor recommended we try this first and he gave us a can to sample, he also told us about neonate if we wanted to try that. At first my daughter didn’t like PurAmino and would not eat much and had severe constipation. So we decided to try neocate, she projectile vomited EVERY time we gave it to her. So we tried neocate’s advanced formula with probiotics. She was a pooping machine and wouldn’t eat. After consulting with her GI, he asked us to try this again. So we did and voila! Baby slowly began eating more and her poops became more regular! She is gaining weight on this tremendously! So happy we tried it again! Baby is now happy after eating, no screaming or pain, and falls asleep easily. Her spit up has decreased.

We found out after I lost my milk supply that my son, who had been having issues for months, was allergic to traditional "on the shelf" formula. Even the Nutramigen/Alimentum formals caused my son issues. Our doctor gave us a sample can on PurAmino and things started changing. Our son stopped spitting up two or three times a feeding and he gained back almost an entire pound in one week! He was on PurAmino for several months and it was a sanity - and maybe even a life saver! Our son was allergy tested at 11 months and sure enough! Milk allergy! While PurAmino is expensive, what is money compared to a happy, healthy child? Thankfully after purchasing a few cans, our insurance helped us out. Thank you for providing an alternative for our son. We may be purchasing again if he hasn't gained weight by his next well child. It's nice to know we already know what works for him. PurAmino made our son's spit up and breath smell weird, but nothing we couldn't deal with!

Puramino formula has been a lifesaver for our baby with GERD. We tried several other formulas, but this is the only one that works—no more reflux, better sleep, and happier feedings. It’s easy to prepare and has made a huge difference in our daily routine. Highly recommend for babies with sensitive tummies!

My son has protein allergies in addition to GERD. He was on nutramigen before Pur Amino and did ok. Once I started him on this, his reflux got so much better---he still has his moments, but he is more of a happy spitter now than before, and his silent reflux is nearly job existent. He seems less uncomfortable, as he still squirmed after eating on nutramigen, possibly due to still containing hydrolyzed casein. I was concerned that on nutramigen he wasn't gaining weight because it can sometimes cause diarrhea. Once I put him in this, he caught up and started gaining again. One thing I took a star off for is that while his poop is still considered normal, it's a bit thicker than before. However, he doesn't seem to have any discomfort associated with it. I was told this can happen with AA formulas because so much more is absorbed---they are "low residue",so be prepared for a poop change! Less, less frequent, and thicker. Over all, even though its expensive, I'm going to keep buying this. He has helped our son out a lot!
