Weng's Chop #5 (Jungle Girl Cover)

The Best
Horror and films of extreme quirkiness don't get much better than this zine that always manages to inform as well as entertain. This issue is really not a zine; it is more like a book since it is 265 pages of some of the most mind-bending articles on movies you never heard of. Isn't that exactly what zines like this are supposed to do? If your interest is in unusual films, you would be foolish not to buy this issue. Very foolish.

Simply the best out there!
Absolutely AMAZING. I've said it before but this is by far the best obscure movie zine out there. This monster issue we keep me reading for a good long time. Thanks guys! Keep it up!

Nice Cult and Obscure Movie Reviews
Nice quality magazine and much larger than I expected (more like a bound book). A lot great content and fun articles. Given the price of typical magazines, this is a deal.

One of the most important underground magazines
Weng's Chop #5....HOLY HELL! For the price of a standard newstand magazine, I received a massive 264 page tome chock full of reviews and articles of the films that I want to know about. You won't find much in the way of mainstream films here. If you love the obscure and the esoteric then you've come to the right place. Exploitation runs amok through each and every page of Weng's Chop.Weng's Chop, along with several other underground mags, are so vitally important to the horror community. You won't find any horror elitist opinions here, just people who love these films writing about them for others who love the same. I can't recommend this magazine high enough.

WENG'S CHOP CONTINUES TO DELIVER THE GOODS!
Brian Harris and Tim Paxton are doing one hell of a great job with WENG'S CHOP. Each issue keeps getting bigger, better and more badass. Issue 5 is an absolute monster; a 250 plus page stunner packed with some of the best genre writers on the planet. The layout is exceptional as are the articles and the price is extremely reasonable. Highly, highly recommended.

Amateur hour
The last few issues have slowly became more amateurish, and sloppy. Its been very discerning. I thought I'd give this issue a chance because they have been working on it for a while. No dice. It's nothing short of awful. Extremely disappointed. It's like they're not even trying. Never again.

Please, do try this.
There are several reasons you should buy this excellent tome.Firstly, because it is a tome. For less than eight pounds you will get 265 pages of finely printed, double column pages of interviews, reviews, essays and thought provoking argument from some very, very good writers. To give an example, there is a "geek round table" discussion on the I Spit on Your Grave franchise in which, over 12 pages 10 different commentators give radically opposing, but well considered, opinions on the whole question of not just whether these films are any worth, but whether rape should be the basis for a whole franchise. As I say, thought provoking stuff.Secondly, the range of material and above all the novelty of the material considered here. There are entire sub genres of weird and wonderful films considered here that I for one never new existed - Chinese vampire films, the 1970s John Holmes starring sequence of Johnny Wadd movies, a bizarre interbreed of porn and film noir, Jungle Girl movies - modern ones at that - dozens of reviews of Spaghetti Westerns, Indian Horror, Turkish gangster movies. This is several steps ahead of the likes of Dark Side magazine, which seems content to rehash the same old opinions on the same old movies - honestly, does the world need another Hammer Horror Special ? Or another going over of the Video Nasties controversy ? I think not, and if you don't, or you just want that same joy of discovering something new and a bit naughty as you did when first you discovered Phantasm or Lucio Fulci, then this is worth the money.Thirdly, it is beautifully presented. Printing is crisp and clear, always legible. Design is well thought out and attractive, the black and white photography is sharp and plentiful, and the whole thing has a highly professional feel and look to it.I bought the whole series after reading this one, and I think you will too. It is seriously that good. Try just this one book for a taster, I guarantee - for all THAT'S worth admittedly - you'll be pleased, inspired, intrigued, and entertained on every page.
