Will it do 16 ga &18 ga nails?

The Metabo Pin Nailer like all other brands Of pin nailer I am familiar with, shoots ONLY 23 GUAGEK pins. (No heads). You may be confusing it with a finish nailer, most shoot 15 or 16 gauge or with a Brad nailer which usually shoots 18 gauge. I use them all depending on the job at hand.

Does the 5 year warranty need yo be puchased or is it from the manufacturer?

It comes with a 5 year Manufacturers warranty.

Will this drive through leather heels on shoes?

I think yes. And if you put 2 inch nails, and put shoes on your foot, then the nails will even go into the leg. Joke.
