I wanted a small bait caster for bay fishing. This was my first penn baitcaster and I didn’t know what exactly to look for. It surely isn’t a bad reel, it just isn’t ideal for most small bait caster use cases. You aren’t getting crazy cast distances, or even the most accurate casts. What you are getting it exactly what this is advertised as which is a small salt water reel.I started using this less like a bay reel and started using it more like a compact conventional. I was much happier with the reel when I was going for bigger fish and even using it for a small beach/tide rod. This reel can take a beating and use 30-50lb braid very well. I’m not concerned about cleaning this reel every time it take it out and the clutch system for the drag is in pretty good shape after a few months of heavy use.It isn’t the fastest, best at casting, or even the best immediate value. It is on the other hand extremely durable and sealed very well.

I am using this reel to jig for flounder. Large line capacity and very smooth magnetic brake.

Good for bottom fishing, Carolina rigging with 1oz weights, or casting a tandem rig with 1/4 oz jig head or live shrimp under a heavy cork.Not good for casting lighter baits like a single 1/4 oz jig head with a three inch paddle tail. Back lash ever time.
