These chestnuts have a good flavor and texture. No, they're not the same as buying fresh chestnuts, scoring them, roasting them, and snacking on them in front of a roaring fire. But they're a great item to keep in the pantry. One packet is just the right amount to toss into whatever you're cooking to make it more interesting. And they're not bad for snacking, either. To enjoy them at their best, sauté them in a pan with a little butter or oil until they turn golden before using them in a recipe or popping them in your mouth. They also work well in the classic French Mont Blanc, making short work of an otherwise complex and time consuming dessert.

This is the way to go for chestnuts. All whole, peeled and tasty chestnuts. No broken pieces, no scorched taste. I get these every year around the holidays.

Tasty, hearty and low sugar snack

Based on the reviews for this product, there appears to be a range of experiences that likely varies depending on the who the seller is. I assume that this product, given proper conditions, can be great. Unfortunately, this was not the case for me. The batch that I got today smelled like dog food when I opened the bags. The color of the product in the four bags contained in the pack were yellow-brown to dark brown. In two of the bags, the nuts where glistening with wet slime and the other two were just damp. I mustered the resolve to taste one and there was no sweetness or pleasant flavor. It had an earthy-sourness, which I suspect is indicative of a product nearing the spoiled stage. The entire experience was off putting and I threw them away. I really wanted these to work. For those who are interested in the finer points of processed foods, this is a product of China. The bags do not have expiration dates on them, but the bottom of the box has a best by date. In my case, it was December 12, 2020, but that meant F all to me give the condition that I received them in. All in all, I believe mileage will vary greatly on these. For less than five dollars an individual bag, perhaps that is a gamble that someone is willing to take. I do not dismiss those who review this product favorably, but I will choose to avoid this product in the future for the same reason that I avoid gas station sushi.

These are terrific used with rice in a rice cooker!

I can never find chestnuts where I live and chestnuts are one of my favorite things. I can across Gefen roasted and peeled chestnuts a few years ago and buy them whenever I get the urge. (Especially around the winter holiday season. They simply a holiday staple for me.) Great taste. Good price. Anyways a welcomed treat.

These are good quality chestnuts, shelled and vacuum packed. They are a good size, ready to use in recipes or out of hand, and fresh from the packet. It's up to you whether you like chestnuts. I love them. Eat them fast as they spoil surprisingly quickly once opened.
