Shifter cable housing has parallel wires inside it
While brake cable housing has a helical metal wrap inside the plastic, shifter cables have parallel wires. The reason is because indexed shifter cables need to hit the same exact positions over and over, and parallel wires don't compress like the helical wrap might. The external diameter of the cable housing can also vary between types of cable housing. So if you have indexed shifters (they click between gears), you want this kind of housing. This is bulk cable housing in one long piece, that you cut to length as needed. Was I satisfied with it? Did it work as expected? Of course, this is no place to skimp on functionality, but believe me, no one except you is going to know which brand of cable housing you used. If you will feel happier paying more, I encourage you to do so. In fact, you could just buy the most expensive product you find, and you could also buy a new product for each and every cable you replace, rather than just buying a generic supply and using it until it runs out. Note to user: Be sure you cut the cable ends well, that will make a bigger difference than anything else about your installation. Cable cutters work better than nippers or tin snips, but you still need to use an awl and a file to carefully round and smooth the steel ends before you put on a ferrule and install the cable. Also lubricate the cable! My LBS recommends you first apply a small coating of high quality bike grease, then thin it by rubbing it down with a super slippery oil, like Tri-Flow or Pro Lube Gold.

Great cables
Fitted and working as is should had to lubricate the inner housing and slide the cable though shifts easy and a choice of black or silver end caps is a nice touch
