Holy Bible Text Edition NLT (2013-09-01) Paperback

I like NLT so much because it’s so easy to read! I have understood from this version what I couldn’t get from other versions. God bless you all!

I don't spend $9 on a Kindle download unless the title is compelling. But I've been wanting a an NLT translation of the Bible since it was used extensively by one of the new pastors at our church. When I read the reviews on Amazon, I really liked this translation's features. I have several other translations and most of my bibles are scribbled over, highlighted, and downright beat up (especially the King James, Amplified and Message bibles. I read a lot, compare translations, and get involved in the reading).The negatives in the reviews here nearly caused me to order a hard copy:'hard to navigate?' 'red letters not red?' 'print's too small?' 'can't access verses?' These problems don't exist on my laptop Kindle app. I can adjust font size, change contrast, and navigation is fairly straightforward. Best of all, I have no problems bookmarking or highlighting. The only drawback is, I can't scribble in it. This is most likely a good thing, since this bible will be cleaner and neater, easier to read as a result.Please note: I also have the freebie Bible versions for Kindle everyone says are easier to access. They are in fact harder to get around in than this NLT for Kindle. Want to have a lightweight bible to take to church? Get a netbook and download the free Kindle app to that. Then you can not only read your Bible along with the pastor, but you can open a second tab and take notes as well. You can even port your Kindle library selections to another device, laptop, desktop computer or smart phone. My advice is, don't bother with the i-pad. It's like the Kindle. Just about the time you decide to splurge for the device, it's been changed and tweaked and costs more than it did before. Keep it simple. Those little notebooks cost almost the same as a Kindle, and are much more versatile, with no monthly fees for data downloads.

I wish to address some of the things people disliked about this Kindle version that are not present; perhaps it has been updated since those reviews.1) No red lettering--In both PC and Android views, the red lettering is present but with a few limitations: On the PC version you must select white paper; however in the Android tablet version white, sepia, and green paper selections all show red text--only black paper will not show the red text.2) Cannot quickly look up chapter and verse--I was able to do that in both PC and Android versions. In the Menu, select either Quick Verse Lookup or Contents then Quick Verse Lookup. Both lists the books of the Bible. Select a Book, then chapter, then verse.You can also click on the footnote link in the reading; it will take you to the footnote. Then from the footnote, click on the link and it takes you right back to where you left off.This Kindle version also has quite a few maps. On the laptop I was only able to enlarge them slightly by going to full screen; however, on the Android tablet I triple tapped and was able to enlarge and move around the map (using two fingers rather than only worked better) and turn it horizontally, when needed.I'm also able to highlight text, add notes, and change font and size as with other Kindle books both in the PC and Android versions.I've only just downloaded the Kindle version tonight and am having no difficulty maneuvering through the Bible. This Kindle version seems to be working just as any other Kindle books I have. So far I am very pleased with this format of the NLT Bible!

Always did like the living bible; read it several times. I got this Kindle version because I don't like the free one I got from Amazon that is ESV. Too old fashioned; still talking about "denarii". I want a modern translation so that I can remember the facts better. I also don't like the fact that ESV has a ton of footnotes/cross references where they put little colored letters on top of words. I find that distracting giving that I never look at that stuff. This NLT doesn't have it. Furthermore, I enjoy the spacing. It divides things into many paragraphs, so that I find it more aesthetically pleasing. It doesn't widen the line spacing (in my Kindle Fire), though, but that's not a big deal. I still think it looks better than the ESV, and I got this thing free with my no-rush shipping credits. Yes! Not that it's expensive. Twenty years ago I used to pay $20 for a bible that I eventually wear out, but now you can get it for so much less! Of course, my old fashioned preacher is highly disapproving of the Kindle where the bible is sitting inside a machine, but I don't tell him that I bought a kindle bible, and what he doesn't know can't hurt him!I recommend that you get the free sample pages to look at it before you order just to make sure you are OK with the narrow line spacing.Update: I put the NLT in my iPad and the line spacing widened just fine! So I will read in there instead. Looks beautiful.

Ich besitze viele Bibeln und merke jedoch immer mehr das die englischen Übersetzungen häufig sehr viel griffiger und näher am Urtext sind. Ganz besonders genial finde ich hier das Stichwortverzeichniss mit denen man schnell die wesentlichen Verse zu verschiedenen Themen nachschlagen kann.Von mir gibt es daher eine klare Kaufempfehlung.
