They are supposed to be water resistant but really aren’t** A: I have been using this the last 3 years on my cushions on my deck furniture. They are white and still look like new after owning them for 6 years! I used the regular scotchgard until I discovered this heavy duty version. Here is my procedure, at the end of the season I remove covers and wash them in the washing machine and dry in dryer. I store them for the winter. In the spring, I get them out and insert the pillow and cushions in the covers and spray vertically and horizontally on both side. I let them dry then spray them again. My dog has even peed on the cushions and it rolls off with no residue. Great stuff! I purchased my deck furniture with cushions at World Market. Not sure if they are olefin. **Q: Would this stain white tennis shoes?** A: I’ve used it on cheap shoes from Walmart to Nikes and Sketchers and in 10 years I’ve never had any yellowing or stains of any kind, that’s one of the reasons why I stand behind this product as I do. **Q: will this work on indoor carpet for pet pee and other pet accidents?** A: Hello - This product is not designed for indoor use. We would not recommend using it on carpet for your application. For carpet we would recommend using the Scotchgard Rug & Carpet Protector. **Q: Only one coat needed? really? here are the directions for indoor scotch gard: 2 light coats are better than one heavy coat. same for this product?** A: I used this on my hiking boots and it lasted about 1 week with one coat. It did it again and same results.. I then tried it again with one coat in the morning and another in the afternoon as it takes a lot of time for it to dry. Same results, only lasted about a week or so. I tried it on my 3 year old tent and it didn't make it past the first rain storm. I used the last 3 cans on my umbrella over the patio table and some spots lasted for a month. Water no longer soaks into the fabric. Instead, it beads up and rolls right off, making the bags much more resistant to rain and road spray.After seeing how well it worked, I treated my motorcycle jacket as well. I applied a generous coat, let it dry completely, and it performed just as well there. It added water resistance without changing the look or feel of the fabric.One thing I really appreciate is that it doesn't leave a sticky residue, white marks, or an artificial shine. Matte fabrics still look matte, shiny fabrics still look shiny, and everything simply looks like the original material—just better protected.Like most aerosol products, it has a strong odor while you're applying it, so I recommend using it outdoors and allowing it to dry completely before bringing the item inside.For anyone wanting to add water resistance to riding gear, bags, jackets, or other outdoor fabric, this has worked exceptionally well for me.
