Excellent account of a terrrifying event
I was 13 when the Oak Lawn tornado came through. The memories of it had such an impact on my life that even now, living in an area of the country that doesn't often have tornadoes, I can't live in a house without a basement. The book is filled with photographs of the aftermath of that horrible afternoon. In my opinion, it is an excellent account of a day that any of us who lived in the area at the time will never forget.

Oak Lawn
Great book. Lots of very interesting pics. I bought it for my 80 year old father who lived there his whole life.

Wonderful Pictorial Documentary
The author produced a pictorial documentary of the Oak Lawn tornado of 1967. Additional verbal documentation accompanied each picture.Found the book interesting. This would be very nostalgic for the folks of that area. Those who are not will find the depth of the documentary interesting especially if your state or community experienced a disaster of this magnitude. Very good work.

I'm the toddler being held by the Nun on page ...
I'm the toddler being held by the Nun on page 48, my sister is sitting next to her. I remember my mother yelling at me to stay under the bed and the next memory was being carried out by the old next door neighbor in a scratchy wool blanket. It's a miracle the death count wasn't higher. I was too young at the time to understand the loss, my condolences to all who lost or hurt from this tragedy. My uncle has donated a set of slides to the Oak Lawn Library. I am very moved by this historical compilation, well done.

Excellent compilation of events as they happened
Great book. After purchasing I realized I had every bit of info (and much more) contained in this book in a suitcase in my closet. Moms stuff I hadn’t gotten through yet, lol, because of course.

But glad to have it
Purchased the book. It was just okay. Not much that you couldn't find other places. But glad to have it.

A must have if you were there and/or tornadoes fascinate you
I lived in Oak Lawn when the tornado hit, and I saw it and the devastation it caused. In the days before camcorders, smart phones, and digital cameras where we can photograph every minute detail in our lives, it's amazing that they were able to compile so many photographs, most of which I had never seen. I'll be loaning it to my kids who have heard me talk about that awful day for years.
