will my boots fit in this as well?

Yes, I kept boots with pants pushed down over them in bag, all I had to do was pull boots/pants out of bag, step into boots and pull up fire suit pants.

A lot of the reviews seem to say thing about a ripped helmet pocket seam... has something been done to improve this product, since it’s reoccurring?

They sent me a new one when mine ripped after less than 3 months of 3 trips a week to fire academy. The new one held up the remaining month and a half. It now just sits above my locker at the firehouse 🤷🏻♂️

Football: Could it fit 2 football helmets and one set of shoulder pads?

Definitely without a doubt but you would fit one helmet in the pocket for it and the other with shoulder pads inside the main area
