Crucial Technology 8GB Kit (4GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM, DDR3 PC3-10600,

We own a 27” iMac (mid-2011). It had 4 GB of RAM. Adding these 2 x 4 GB was quick and simple and has made it run a lot better. FYI, we needed to use a bit more force to slot them into the ports than expected. We were able to do a factory restore and upgraded the operating system to High Sierra. It feels like new again! Definitely worth the money - shipped and delivered promptly.

I upgraded my late 2011 MacBook Pro by taking out the 4 gig of memory and putting in the 8 gig (the limit for my model) from Crucial. Turned on my machine and it worked like a charm. Safari, email, photos all run fast where before they before they were dragging interminably. Simple to do and I am all butterfingers. Bestbuy will do it for $40 if you are nervous about it, but should not be. Excellent product, strongly recommended. All you need is a precision phillips screwdriver, which you can get from Home Depot for $4. Don't buy that new PC, just upgrade if you can.

I'm blown away. I have 10 apps up and running flawlessly and 13 Chrome tabs open as I type this review. I can't believe how much faster it has made my iMac run when operating with multiple apps running. I have been using the 4GB of RAM since 2011 and didn't even realize how easy this would be to upgrade. I was ready to trash this desktop and get a new one. Before installing the extra 8GB of RAM (4+4), the computer would freeze up if I dared open more than 3 apps. Work was painstakingly slow. I'm tempted to replace the 4GB (2+2) with another 8GB just for the added RAM now. But I'll see how this goes. One warning. Inserting the new RAM took a serious push. I was afraid of breaking the chips or that I was doing something wrong. I had to use a towel to put over my finger when snapping the new RAM into place, because the edge was hurting my finger, but as long as they're lined up right, trust they'll fit. You just have to force them. Worked flawlessly. Anyone can do this.

Three years ago I took over our son's 2011 MacBook Pro that he used through high school and three years of college. I needed my own computer for general internet work and an occasional document or web meeting. The computer was very slow. I contacted the school IT department that provided the computer. They suggested formatting the HD which would erase thousands of dollars worth of software. I decided to double the memory. The manual said 8GB is the max but people were reporting they were putting in 16 GB. Upon further reading I realized I had a 13-inch and the people putting in four times the original memory had 15 and 17-inch screens. The computer is runs like a new machine. I just ordered a firewire cable and plan to convert all of my 8mm videos to DVDs and get into Photoshop and other media programs. This is preferable to spending over $1,000 just for the need for speed! Fifteen minutes to install. I needed to be careful not to lose the screws. Get these memory cards before they stop making them.

iMac 21.5-inch, Mid 2010, 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3 OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 Wanted to upgrade from the base 4GB of RAM provided by Apple. Looking for better performance. Interesting problem upon installation. Attempt One: Original two 2GB DIMMs were in BANK 0/DIMM1 and BANK 1/DIMM1. Added the new Crucial 4 GB DIMMs to open slots for BANK 0/DIMM0 and BANK 1/DIMM0. Upon startup, the iMac blared the warning horn. Annoying sound. Had to power down holding the power button. Attempt Two: Swapped one each of the two sets so the DIMMs were in the same banks. Once again the horn alarm upon startup. Power down . . . Attempt Three: Loaded only the new two 4GB DIMMs in BANK 0/DIMM1 and BANK 1/DIMM1. Booted up fine. “About this Mac” showed 8GB total RAM. Success with new Crucial RAM. Attempt Four: Keeping the two new Crucial 4GB DIMMs in BANK 0/DIMM1 and BANK 1/DIMM1, loaded the two original 2GB DIMMs into the DIMM0 banks. Booted up. Worked fine. “About this Mac” showed 12GB total RAM. This was the intended end goal. Success with both old Apple/Samsung RAM and new Crucial RAM. Odd that the old RAM had to be relocated to the open slots. Specs between old and new did match, DDR3 1333 MHz. Have always had success with Crucial RAM in both PCs and Macs. Will continue to recommend Crucial. Hope this helps other do-it-yourselfers.

I watched the performance of my MacBook Pro 13 in (late 2011) degrade slowly over a period of time. It seems every time the OS was upgraded, the performance went down.. I'm currently on Sierra .. and after a year or so, I had enough.. I looked at the Activity Monitor to see what was happening and noticed that the memory swap used was relatively high. I knew at that point it was time to upgrade the memory. I realized that when we originally bought the MacBook, 4Gb was sufficient, but over time with the OS upgrades, new software added, it could no longer handle it. I checked the compatibility online to make sure I got the right one, and then placed an order through Amazon. I was excited when it came and quickly shut down my laptop to install the RAM. Installation was very easy and took less than a minute (you will need a small phillips screwdriver to remove the panel of the laptop, to expose the motherboard). Turned it back on, and got the dreaded three beeps. I went back, removed the RAM, and reinserted.. and tried again.. and again, the three beeps... Removed the new RAM, and re-inserted the old memory and everything was fine. I checked the package and model numbers, and everything was correct. At that point, I thought to myself.. there is something wrong. I returned it and re-ordered a new set. Repeated the steps, and this time, upon startup, no beeps! Everything seemed more responsive, and applications opened quickly. I check the Activity Monitor, and looked at the memory swap - a big fat Zero!!! I'll have to remind myself to check the Activity Monitor over time periodically. If memory usage ever creeps up to 7 Gb, it will be time to upgrade to 16 Gb.

Our iMac was signaling trouble for the longest time as it slowed down considerably over the past six months. At first, we thought it might be that too many programs were being used simultaneously but we discovered that our slightly older iMac was in need of a little memory upgrade. The difference in speed is substantial and I think that upgrading the memory can often be the solution for many users of slightly older machines. Installation could not be easier and if I can do it as a complete non-techie, so can you. Unscrew the panel on the bottom of the monitor and insert the memory--that's it--oh, and turn the computer back on! If you have a sluggish system, before writing off your computer and chucking it off a rooftop, it may be something as simple as upgrading the memory. We've now upgraded to of our systems and it's made all the difference. NOTE: before you buy your memory, be sure to check that not only the numbers match your system but that you are also purchasing the correct amount of memory that your system can handle. And remember that there are many online resources for how-to. You can definitely do this yourself!!

My mid-2010 iMac with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core i3 was running extremely slow when I upgraded from Mountain Lion to El Capitan. This problem went away once I added the 4GBx2 of Crucial RAM to the 2GBx2 that came with my iMac. The install was super easy. You can find lots of tutorials on youtube. I searched for “iMac mid-2010 ram upgrade” and found a number of videos that were helpful. The hardest part of the installation was pushing the RAM module into the empty slot. It took a lot more force than I anticipated. One last thing. I’ve heard of others who have had problems when installing cheap ram. I purchased the Crucial ram because OWC and Crucial were names that were most recommended in my search. So far so good. My computer is running much better and I’m so happy that I didn’t wait any longer to add more RAM.

Like everything about this product. It is backed by excellent instructional video directions for fitting. Fits perfectly first time. Has transformed the operation of my ageing iMac. Wished I’d upgraded years ago but thought it might be beyond me. Wrong! It’s simple if your machine is the one with the removable grill on the bottom edge, or possibly the removable trap door on the back. Did but the anti static bracelet just to keep the chips safe.

It took a couple of months after my iMac computer began crashing frequently before an Apple hardware diagnostic test identified the problem as being a faulty memory module. The same test a few weeks earlier failed to find any hardware problems. I discovered there are many international manufacturers listed on the Internet for this part but no store in Canada keeps it in stock. A few online stores including Amazon all said shipping would take a few weeks. I found instructions from Apple on how to replace the original memory modules with these new Crucial memory modules. The problem of my iMac computer frequently crashing is now fixed. Through testing I found one of the original 4GB memory modules is okay so now I have 3 x 4GB = 12GB installed. In contrast to all of the online advice and reviews I did not notice any improvement in the speed of my iMac by upgrading from 8GB to 12GB. The Apple hardware diagnostic test full version that is needed to test the memory modules takes a few hours to run. Apple evaluated the trade-in value of my iMac as being $99. These new Crucial memory modules with tax cost me more than the trade-in value of my iMac. I hope my iMac continues to work for a few more years now that these new Crucial memory modules have fixed the frequent crashing problem.
