Classic Movie Buffs & Film Students Must Have!
Film historian John DiLeo has a new book and it's an absolute delight. THERE ARE NO SMALL PARTS is a treasure for classic movie aficionados and upcoming young actors and directors. I am so happy this book was written. I’ve always wanted to know more about some of those marvelous actors we so often see pop-up in a classic movie, make a brief but enormous impression and then, in some cases, become forgotten. Not only does this book dissect 100 of the greatest small parts ever put on film (by such gifted character actors spanning from Hattie McDaniel to Jane Lynch) it also includes Hollywood legends spanning from Marilyn Monroe to Al Pacino. You’ll be shocked to learn how little screen time was given to some of the most memorable and awarded performances ever to grace the silver screen. As always, Mr. DiLeo has done his homework and then some. Clocking the screen time of each performance that was 10 minutes or less and offering further delicious details about the making of the film, the time period and it’s place in history, as well as info on the actor’s personal life, career and much more. The photos and the book construction are gorgeous but even more so is Mr. DiLeo’s writing - poetic, concise, clever, always honest, informative and a hell of a lot of fun! If you haven’t read any of his other six books related to the movies, then I highly recommend you do so. A gem.

Remarkable
This recent book by JD is another scholarly examination of film with the author's usual attention to detail and humor infused in all the text. This one is a true love letter to Hollywood film acting. A book easy to get through with enjoyable to read succinct descriptions of notable performances. A clever idea for a book on film roles and the actors who played them.

A book for all movie fans
What a terrific idea. The author shines light on some of the best acting in Hollywood by actors who had only minutes to make an impression. I searched for my own favorites and intend to watch many movies I have never seen just to appreciate the scenes that Dileo describes This guy really knows what he’s talking about and his critiques are insightful and eye opening.

Another Film History Treasure Trove From John DiLeo
As a lover of great films - and great film performances - I’m a huge fan of Mr. DiLeo’s previous books. And this may be his best yet. It’s a wonder, filled with witty prose, sharp observations, and Hollywood stories destined to delight any film fan worth their TCM subscription. The salutes to these perfect, miniature miracles of screen acting feature appearances by famous Oscar-winners, and supporting players whose names may be unfamiliar… at least until you read the book. THERE ARE NO SMALL PARTS is so enthralling that I finally slowed down, only treating myself to one or two chapters a day. What a gift Mr. DiLeo has given to movie buffs everywhere!
