A great sequel to The Gateway.
In Beyond the Blue Event Horizon we continue to accompany Robinette Broadhead coming to terms with his past, while lavishly enjoying the profits from his previous Gateway trip. This book builds from the previous, but greatly expands the universe created. We also accompany a quite dysfunctional family trip to another Heechee facility, one that will bring great risks and also great rewards. Compared to Gateway it's a much more conventional story, but for those who liked the first book this one is a great sequel.

East Enders in space (and it all started so well...)
Gateway, the precursor to this book, was brilliant. OK the idea wasn't original. Roadside Picnic by the Strugatsky brothers had been there first, and better, but Gateway was gripping, and presented an all too believable dystopia. What made Gateway so good was the real sense of the alien Pohl achieved in the Heechee. The universe of this book was vast, distant and dangerous and the Heechee were alien beyond our understanding. Beyond the Blue Event Horizon and the following Heechee sagas (which I admit I stopped reading after no. 3) turned them into funny-shaped humans, like most aliens in pulp sci-fi, and the Heechee became players in a boring space soap.

Wow, after gateway, more madness, imagination, grandeur
Usually after one crazy good book SF series just fizzle out. BBEH just goes full throttle with pure impossible tales of space exploration.

dels millors llibres de ciència ficció que he llegit.
M'ha agradat moltíssim.La trama està molt ben feta així com les motivacions dels personatges.Sens dubte aquest llibre junt als altres de la saga forma part de les grans obres de la ciència ficció.

Highly recommended if you're a fan of Gateway for the story more than the writing style.
Not as good as Gateway, but what sequel is ever as good? If you're a Gateway fan, you're going to love this book. It's far more about the story in this case than the writing. Gateway had a very interesting alternating chapter layout, and I can't say the writing style is a masterpiece, but the story absolutely is. I think it's better than Gateway on the content. The author is clearly one of the best sci-fi writers, but compared to all genres I'd give him a 7 or 8, where as Gateway was a 10 on the writing. I do cringe every time Pohl uses the adjective "expertly" but maybe that's just me. It's probably because he used it excessively in one of his other books. I immediately started reading the next book in the series after finishing this one, I just want to know what happens to Robinette and Wan and Albert Einstein and S Ya and most of all Klara.

Excellent.
Vraiment excellent.
