Seems like the extensions from this board can turn it to a "round" as well.** A: Essentially... not really. The peg spacing on the 18" is 3/8. The Peg spacing on the 28" is 7/16. Its personal preference and the choice will depend on which yarn weight you like to use more and really how big you want to be able to knit without matching up separate panels.I have both and find I use the 28" more. I feel the small 1/16 difference between both of the boards pegs works and looks better with the yarn I like to use. **Q: Does this come with a hook?** A: Yes, it does come with a hook. **Q: I am fairly new to loom knitting. Which board is the best for making afghans at home?Easiest to use?** A: You can use the 28" long board but to make a good sized Afghan you will have to make 2 or 3 panels and join them. If you use the S loom or infinity loom as a rake or double knitting set up it will make a nice size afghan. There are videos online to show how. I have done both. The board is such high quality, the pegs are sturdy and really in the board tightly to prevent breakage. The extenders are neat as this can make a large square board for tons of variations. You can knit, double knit, weave, and make all sorts of projects. This board is very well made and I can do tons of projects, including a blanket I'm making now. This board is pricier than some, however, the multitude of variations of the board and projects that can be made, plus the quality of the loom itself, makes this one worth it. I plan to buy the 18 inch next for smaller projects. There are loom books and online tutorials showing how to cast on and do different stitches.
