Works as advertised, quality product
The bottle is advertised as sufficient for 1 acre at a 2-4 foot depth. That seems to about right to "slow" vigorous bottom growth at depths of a foot or deeper in spring and fall. Dye distributes thoroughly when poured directly into the water along one side of the pond leaving a pleasing "dark" color. After using one bottle Pondworx every month (when air temperature is >50F), the shallow bottom remained visible. The water is not dark enough with one bottle to discourage large herons. Presumably the dyes are absorbing light in the spectrum supporting photosynthesis. Maybe the seller should provide a figure depicting what light frequencies the dye blocks compared to what light frequencies algae and other plants use? Does more dye actually block more photosynthetic light? I do not know. During long summer days, I found better control with a second bottle each month for my one acre pond 2-4 feet deep.

Didn't work - even poured the whole thing in.
I was quite happy as far as how fast this was delivered. Being a Prime Member is awesome! But, that's how far it goes. I was hoping this dye would work. We usually buy a more expensive dye in a Gallon container. This says it would do an acre per quart, with a 4-6ft depth on average. Our pond is maybe a 1/4 acre with its deepest part being 8ft (and it's extremely shallow on the edges and it loses water rather quickly - some kind of leak). Anyway, we are starting to get some murky water that is almost green. The algae is also starting to thicken up even though we have an aerator. We have had some major rain these last two weeks and it quickly filled up the pond (but it loses water just as fast!) and with the heat, the green stuff is starting to take over! I threw the first half of the container in yesterday and it didn't go very far. No change in the water at all. Today, we threw the last half in. Unfortunately, it only changed the color by a bit - it's still green, just a tiny darker green. Does anyone have a better recommendation? My son loves to fish in our pond but it's just getting uglier and uglier by the day due to the heat/sun! **Since it's only been 2 days, I will update for any changes.

It works great!
I have a 1/3 acre farm pond, with over 10ft depth in the middle. I was dealing with some nasty algae growth for a while during summer. I have no water circulation, so I needed something to take care of the problem. I used half of this bottle along with some Pondworx Pond Bacteria, and it sure did clean up the pond very nice - took a while, but it worth it. I really love the black color - which I originally wanted the blue dye, but I am very glad that I accidentally ordered black instead. We'll see how long it takes for the dye to dissipate, but I will stick to this product because it worked for me.

Super concentrated, the colour is somewhat artificial
I ordered black and received blue, so my comments are for the nature's blue dye instead. This stuff is super concentrated. I got a tiny speckle on the back of my hand, and the sink turned bright blue when I went to wash it off. I added roughly 1/2 cup to an 11,000 gallon pond, and in less than an hour the whole pond is very blue. I'm giving it 3 stars because it definitely works, but I think the colour nature's blue looks somewhat artificial, like a swimming pool. But a little amount goes a long ways and hopefully it will still help to block sunlight and discourage algae growth in the pond. I think black would still be better, maybe mixed with blue, would look more natural. Since I didn't wear proper gloves (my mistake) my hands turned Smurf blue. Wear rubber gloves! However, I found that strong Palmolive dish soap was effective and got off 99% of the colour with only a few minutes of vigorous scrubbing, so its not the end of the world. Also, I spilled a little on my flagstone walking path, but a light rain 2 days later washed it completely away, so my worries for long-term staining from small drips is no longer a concern either.

000 gal pond and it worked great. The blue tint actually lasted 4 months (although ...
In September i purchased a blue (Pondworx Lake brand) and a black (from other company) as i wanted to try them out on my ponds. I put 2 ounces in my 5,000 gal pond and it worked great. The blue tint actually lasted 4 months (although in the fourth month it was slowling vanishing). i tried the black product in my other pond and i nearly had to put the whole bottle in to get it completly black. In December, i needed black for the same pond and decided to use the Pondworx Lake product so i purchased it and it has worked great.

Best product Ive found for blackening my small pond - lasts long time

Used in a small 2m by 2m by 0.5m pond. Couple of cap fulls added to the pond (diluted in a watering can with 3 gallons of water) turned the pond inky black. Remains dark black for weeks and then just needs a cap full from time to time to maintain the deep black colour. Makes the pond look great without affecting the plants or wildlife.
