i understand this prevents mineral build up in the pipes, but does it also have the same effect as a water softener as far as washing clothes

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately the ED2000 will not have the same effect on your laundry that a true water softener will have. Hard water can cause problems when washing clothes since the dissolved calcium and magnesium that causes hardness will prevent the soap from mixing with water effectively. This causes leftover soap residue and scum that can prevent clothes from coming clean. Unlike a traditional water softener, The ED2000 allows the calcium and magnesium to remain in the water so soap in your laundry can still be affected by the dissolved solids and prevent it from mixing completely.

Hi, Yes the ED2000 descaler/water conditioner can be used with PVC, PEX, or metal pipes. Thank you, Nick iSpring Water Systems

Will it stop mineral buildup in the toilet?

Hi Billy, Yes, the iSpring ED2000 descales your entire water system and prevents scale buildup in pipes and appliances. We hope this helps. iSpring Water Systems 678-261-7611 support@ispringfilter.com

How does this descaler create a pulesating magnetic field without a completed circuit on each coil? There would be no current flow.

The coils create an electromagnetic field between them when a high frequency signal is applied to the wires. There is no need for a complete wired circuit. You can think of them like radio transmitters, which transfer electrical energy through the air. There are many types of electrical circuits where current can flow without a direct hard-wired connection. Only DC circuits require a solid connection, and this device produces AC not DC.
