I've used the rental cleaners a lot and I just got to thinking after so much money and so many bad experiences: why not just get our own. There are a lot of options and I was lucky enough to get a pretty good deal on this elite Hoover cleaner, which cost the same as about 4 rentals. And I don't have to worry about defective machines or contaminating our stuff with other people's disgusting, stinky waste.We were instantly and thoroughly impressed with this machine. It was easy to assemble and the settings were clear and easy to make. The wash function is intuitive and the great thing about it is that it is very efficient. The rental machines basically dump a bunch of water all over the place and the suction isn't that good. This cleaner uses what seems to be an appropriate amount of water and cleaning solution. I was able to complete a small bedroom in one fill-up of both water and solution. That would have been unheard of with the rental machine.It's equal parts disgusting and gratifying to see the waste water that comes from your carpets and it really does a much better job than hand cleaning. We had multiple stains that we were dealing with caused by our little barbarians and this machine (with another shampoo) got out 99% of the stains). It's really amazing.The waste compartment has all sorts of compartments and sections that I don't understand but it appears to trap the bigger junk at the top and leave the dirty water at the bottom. It's a little difficult to clean thoroughly but not too bad.This is a great machine and a good value.

It's not easy to clean but it's far more possible to clean than other vacuums. The bristles come out for a better clean.

This carpet steam cleaner is awesome!!! The only issue I have is that I feel like I have to empty it too often during the cleaning. The dirty water bucket if it gets about half full the suction stops. You can hear the motor change. When you're doing a big area, you'll have to keep emptying it out. But this cleaner works very well. As you can see in the photos, you can't even see where the stains were before. It's easy to use. A little heavy but that's to be expected. If used correctly, dry time is pretty quick. Just be sure to do a few passes over the areas without squeezing the trigger. So it'll just blow the warm air. I would recommend and definitely buy again.

I normally hire a professional carpet cleaner once a year, but after realizing that my home is small enough to steam clean myself, I started looking at home carpet cleaning units. The Hoover Power Scrub Elite, with its 1.25 gallon water tank, is large enough to clean a room without repeated refills yet small enough to store in my closet.The Elite is very easy to use. First, you fill the water and cleaning solution tanks up to the max fill lines. Next, turn the dial to "wash," select either "deep clean" or "quick clean," and step on the power pedal. It's Morbin' Time! Hold down the handle trigger while slowly pushing and pulling the cleaner to dispense the solution ("wet pass"). Then, release the trigger while going over the shampooed area to extract excess solution ("dry pass"). You should perform far more dry passes than wet ones. Refill the water tank as needed, making sure to drain the dirty water each time you do. Finally, turn the dial to "rinse" and repeat the wet-dry cleaning procedure above.I've attached a picture of the dirty water tank after deep cleaning and after rinsing. The dirty water that the professional cleaners drain from their tank looks just like that, so the Elite is very effective for a home unit. It sucks up dirt like Morbius sucks artificial blood through a tube. My only gripe with the unit is its wide base that doesn't turn easily. You'll have to approach tight areas and corners from awkward angles. I don't find it to be heavy, but I lift weights like this cleaner lifts stains: amazingly.As of my review date, Amazon switched the prices of the Deluxe and the higher-end Elite models. Get the Elite before Amazon corrects its prices. I paid ~$165 for the steamer and a 128 oz. bottle of cleaning solution. A professional cleaner charges ~$200 to clean two bedrooms, so this steamer paid for itself immediately. I have enough money left over to watch Morbius again (and again).
