Zar12012 Wood Stain, QT, Premium Teak

I had purchased a different product for my wood project, based solely on the color, I needed a traditional teal look, as I’m building shelves that are meant for a Midcentury Modern styled room, and let’s just say it did not go well and I had to sand off all the bad product. This left me anxious to find a product with the right color.I found this Zar product, and I wasn’t sure the color would work out but the formulation/base was what I wanted so I took the chance. It ended up being a great product to work with, went on like a dream, and the color is perfection. The stair treads in my photo are of the bad product, which we made work with a lot of intervention and trial and error. The shelf standing up next to the stairs is this Zar product in Danish Teak. As you can see, it’s almost a perfect match color wise, but was a cinch to apply. As I started with very soft white wood, I applied one coat of wood conditioner before applying two coats of the Zar stain. The can says it requires only one coat but I got a more rustic look with a single coat, after the second coat, it’s perfect. A very light sanding with an ultra fine paper and these will be good to go! So happy with it.

UPDATE 8/23/17: I am bumping up my review for this stain to 3 stars. In short, I am happy with the end result and the color this stain gave my wood table. It's a thick wood stain, so make sure you apply a very light coat!I had to put a lot more work into my DIY project because I made the dumb decision to apply a second, heavier coat and the wood I was working with was not very absorbent at all. Once I wiped off the second coat I knew I made a mistake because so much of it had dried ON the wood and not INTO the wood. To fix this, I had to use mineral spirits, light sandpaper, mineral spirits, light sandpaper, mineral spirits....you get the idea. I finally reached a place with the stain that looks great but it took me more work. Don't make the same mistake I did.Original Review: Due to the high reviews, I had high hopes for this product. I wanted to change the color of a wood table that was previously grey. I did everything you're supposed to do: stripped the grey paint off, sanded the table down, cleaned the table, and then applied the stain. I let it sit for a little, then wiped it, waited, reapplied a second coat, and that may have been my fatal error.I love the color of teak, so I couldn't wait to see how the wood would turn out.However, the stain proved to be very thick when I applied it the second time. So the table came out looking more painted than stained and ultimately it was tacky to the touch. So now I have to back a few steps and start over. I probably will not use this product again.

We love Zar stain. It is the only stain we use and Teak Natural is our favorite color. Was so happy to find this thru Amazon since it is no longer sold in any of our local stores.

The quality of ZAR is so far superior to other brands. The color tones they offer are so warm and inviting. Added some wood trim to our home and was looking for the color that would compliment our existing woodwork. This color is almost spot one to our existing color. And the results it produces are so thorough. And to finish it leaves a satin sheen to give the look of a poly finish!

We used this stain on a new maple butcher block. We used wood conditioner first then applied the stain. It's beautiful and adds a warmth honey look to the wood. We applied 2 coats of stain and then applied 5 coats of tung oil.

I use for to redo the breakfast nook, cannot find the colors at Home Depot, the first can I bought few years ago runs out so I order more, but the color slight difference lucky I was able to use up the old can just a enough till runs out, it the same brand and color but can use the new one for the next project.
