One of Rock and Roll's first "legends" Eddie Cochran was an early performer of rockabilly music and one of it's most exciting and dynamic guitar players. Over the years, Eddie's records have remained popular and is now recognized worldwide as one of the most important figures of pre-Beatles music. This 2 CD collection features the hits 'C'mon Everybody', 'Weekend', 'Summertime Blues', 'Sweetie Pie' & 'Somethin' Else' among others. EMI Gold. 2005.

Gonna Raise a Fuss, Gonna Raise a Holler
Eddie Cochran and Carl Perkins were George Harrison's guitar idols. Eddie was finishing a tour of England when he was killed in an auto accident. Gene Vincent was crippled. George made sure he saw them live on this tour.Cochran was a triple threat. He played guitar. He sang. He wrote his own music. Just before his death, he was scheduled to go into the studio with a new wunderkid guitar prodigy, Glen Campbell. Eddie was to produce this fleet-fingered, country boy's album.Today, Eddie Cochran is best known for his teen lament, 'Summertime Blues'. That song deserves to live for all eternity, but he was much more than just that one number. George Harrison's audition piece to join John Lennon's Quarrymen was a note perfect rendition of 'Twenty-flight Rock'. Paul McCartney set-up this introduction and prepped Lennon concerning little Georgie's prodigious guitar talent. This collection of Eddie's Best may be debatable, but the only true Best of...would also be a complete gathering of all his work. As far as early rockers go, Cochran was not just influential, he was/is The Gold Standard.

I paid for the darn CD, I should be able to rip it....
OK - three things you need to know about this CD:1) It is easily the best concise collection of Eddie's music - 40 well-selected tracks, sharply remastered, and nicely packaged (though poorly annotated).2) It's a sweet deal - two CD's for around 10 bucks.3) It is copy protected which - on my Mac OSX computer, at least - forced me to use a player contained on the CD itself and prevented me from ripping MP3 versions for use on my iTunes or iPod. That, as Eddie once sung, gave me the rock and roll blues. On the merits of the music alone, 'Best of Eddie Cochran' rates 4 stars - really great stuff, but most of it falls short of the brilliant standard set by classics like 'Summertime Blues' or 'Something Else.' Then, I docked it one star for the copy protection....TRACK LISTING:- Disc 1 -1. Summertime Blues2. Three Steps To Heaven3. Somethin' Else4. Cut Across Shorty5. Twenty Flight Rock6. absolutely great
This cd has all my favorite Eddie Cochran songs on it, I bought it originally for the "I Remember" song, but all the songs on here, all 40 are just so great to hear again, this is one of my favorite cd's that I've bought.I still can't figure out completely why Eddie was more popular in Europe than here, this is really great rock and roll.My only guess to that question is there was a lot of competition at the time these songs were out,and some of these songs, are very similar to each other, but, whatever, I really enjoy this cd, as you will also. Very Highly Recommended

great artist-underrated
Underrated in the U.S. Eddie was a great guitarist. Ask Paul McCartney. The English kids appreciated him. Gene and Eddie died way too young. Stray Cats appreciated him. Disappointed that "Let's Get Together " a copy of "C'mon Everybody" was not included. Rocker songs are great, but ballads not too impressive. Sounds like he pushed his voice. Not much range in his voice like Gene. Appreciate Elvis because he was truly a great singer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The kid was talented though!

Gone too soon but well represented...
Great career summary for an under-appreciated early performer. Helps present a full picture of the entertainer beyond a handful of hits.

One of a kind
I'd always known about Eddie Cochran because of 'summer time blues' and the cover version of it by Blue Cheer, but it wasn't untilI became aware of the Stray Cats, and because of them, Gene Vincent, that I realized how influential he's been to so many artists. This is a welcome, and actually, required addition to my collection and it should be on everyone's 'must have' list

A thorough collection from an early bit player in the rock and roll pantheon.
Several classic numbers sprinkled in with some just OK songs and some schmaltz. Overall, an interesting and spirited collection and worth hearing by anyone interested in early rockabilly and rock and roll.

All the best Cochran tracks on this double CD.
My first true teenage love bought this same listing (on vinyl). of Cochran hits for a Xmas present from HMV in 1977.Expensive back in the day, If I remember correctly it was a ยฃ8:99.Cochran was a superb guitar player, song writer/singer who wanted to go into studio production. Allegedly he discovered Glen Campbell and was supposedly intendending to write songs for him and produce a new sound for him ?The iconic beat that Eddie invented was totally original in style and didn't sound as if he was influenced by the rockers of the day. Rather his influences, I am told , were country stars. Eddie's lyrics captured teenage themes that were very different from the usual lyrics about Cadillac cars, bopping, and girlie love and loss.Summertime blues lyrics are fantastic, " I'd like to help you son but yer to young to vote" brilliant. This double CD is fantastic value and packed in a nice jewel case with good design and photos of the man himself.Next day delivery on standard post and well packed in a bubble bag.

C`mon everybody
Bought secondhand from MusicMagpie. Item arrived promptly and in perfect condition. Some of the tracks are a bit samey and not too keen on the slower numbers, but only played one disc so far.

The oldies are the best
Have become an Eddie Cochran fan. Good quality recordings and I play this when I am sewing and like to sing along. Fortunately nobody can hear me. I alternate between this CD and The Very Best of Buddy Holly.

Great collection.
I bought this album, as my band plays mainly 50s Rock and Roll songs and I needed some additional song ideas. It is a great collection from a artist that was taken away far too early. Thoroughly recommended.
