Coralline Algae in a Bottle Purple Helix Live Algae Spores for Saltwater Aquarium and Reef Tanks

This stuff worked really well. So well I decided to come back and write a review and I almost never write reviews. I believe the instructions said that it could take almost two months to see full results. I started to see results immediately (little red patches here and there). But what more impressed me was that separately I was starting to get a green algae problem (which nothing to do with this product -- I had dumped some algae contaminated water into the take as a part of a failed copepod related exercise), so I had to turn off all my lights. Two months later I got the green algae problem under control but because there were no lights for that whole period it also stopped progress on the coraline. I thought I'd have to start over and order a new bottle of this product. But no, as soon as I turned the lights back on the little patches of red (that during the lights out period had turned a little brown), sprung back to life and started spreading. The process is not complete, but my hard scape is starting to look great. Long strong short this product works well, works pretty fast, and is robust to screw ups.

I dont normally leave reviews but thought I would for this considering how well it has worked. I bought a bottle back in August and dosed it into my tank on August 18th. Roughly a week later I began to notice small spots of coralline forming on my rockwork. One month later it has absolutely taken off! The growth is exponential and starts slow but as the spots of coralline grow the speed in which they grow increases. There’s multiple strains of algae within the bottle so you get different shades that grow on your rocks depending on the lighting that spot receives. For example the picture I posted with this review shows a spot on the back side of the rock for my aqua scape. You can see the bright pink spots growing on the rock by one of my rock flowers. The anemone is roughly 2 inches in diameter for reference on one months growth. When I dosed I poured the entire contents of the bottle into my tank and then rinsed with tank water and poured it into the tank again. Yes you will inevitably get coralline in your tank that will be introduced from frags or snail shells. But that introduction can take months. This cuts your time dramatically and gives you tons of diversity. I feel the people who are having issues or claiming that it’s just a bottle of water may not be giving it time to grow or may not be maintaining water conditions that promote the growth of calcareous algaes

Forced to give this even 1 star. I would have chosen 0.. It’s been 4 1\2 weeks. My water is perfect. I followed the directions exactly as stated. I had really high hopes for this product. It didn’t even look like anything was in the bottle. Looked like straight water. I watched as I poured it in my tank to see if there were any particles or anything at all showing. Totally clear. I still kept my hopes up. After waiting patiently for 4 1/2 weeks there isn’t even a single spec or sign of coralline. SO DISAPPOINTED!! TERRIBLE WASTE OF MONEY!!

I have used this on all 5 of the tanks I have had and I have gotten great results every time. 100% this product works very well. Yes, you have to be patient, nothing good happens overnight in this hobby! Very happy with the colors that I got. I bought both the purple and the pink. In high areas, I have a bright almost neon pink. I've gotten many comments on how bright pink my rocks are. In shady areas and under rocks. I got a deep pastel crazy-looking purple color and where the 2 colors meet its neon pink with purple spots on top of the pink. My tank came out very nice and this has by far been the best-looking tank I have ever had in my 20 years in the hobby. Will definitely buy again, having the “right type” of coralline really makes a huge difference.

did not work for me but had trouble getting spec`s for tank right did not get spec`s until product was delivered and read bottle . dose not tell all you needed to do when buying that i seen or i missed it

Works great. Dumped a bottle of purple and pink. Within 2 weeks started seeing little white dots everywhere, then rocks encrusted. Great product , but you need to understand water parameters or don’t buy it.I kept my parameters as followsNo3- 2.5Phos- .02Alk 10.1Mag 1500 (I like my mag higher for Lps)Calc 465Ammonia 0Ph 8.3If you keep the above parameters and stable this product works great. Stability is key. Smaller tanks weekly water changes @ at least 30 percent should keep your parameters in check for the most part. Bigger tanks you need to dose or you’re not getting anywhere, which is not the fault of the product. It’s a science of itself. I’m seeing pink and purple corraline growth everywhere.

I added this on 7/1 2022 and just today, 11/9 I'm starting to see purple spots showing up on all the rocks. I started this tank with zero "live" rock or sand. After 4 months I was about to give up and call it a scam, but you just need to wait.Alkalinity 8.2Calcium 430Phosphates 0.018 ppmNitrates 0Update. 9/11/2025I used a bottle of the other color one and my rocks are now completely covered in different shades. It's hard to tell but the gray spots are actually blue. If you zoom in on the claim you can see the different shades.
